Different Tail lights?

alright i have a 89 camaro with the regular Grid Tail lights...

Since coming to this board i have seen a euro style tail light where the blinker is underneath the backup and stop lights. well recently i saw a THIRD type of tail light on a White SC in my local Area (Detroit) that didnt have a grid like mine. My question comes is...Does anyone know the specific years and or types of cars that got each of these different types of tail lights, why, were they special editions or what?

One style

This is what the one that i saw looked like

i cant seem to find the european ones....

I'm pretty sure those came on older Camaros, not sure what years, but 82-86 maybe? And then on RS's in the later 80's. I don't know the exact years though.

i think the taillight in the second pic is the same one as the first picture you posted, but with the black grid sanded off to reveal the three different colors, not entirely positive though

Early plain Camaro's didn't get the stripe. I don't like the single stripe. The grid is the best though. Someday mine will be all red and should look pretty good.

Those were actually two different taillights. The stripeless one was indeed found on older base model cars.

There was also another taillight type that came on some Berlinettas which have a gold band across the middle.

Until '90, only Z28s got the grid taillights.

The first pic you posted is what SHOULD have come on your 89RS. If you have grid-style taillights, then they've been replaced before.

I agree that the grid style is the best one, but I think the second best one is the early base model lights with no black stripe going in the center.

There is nothing techinically wrong with them. I just don't like the way the lights are split in half by such a thick bar. Its mainly an asthetic problem for me, but it should not concern me since I don't even own a Camaro.

The export tailights I've seen are these. I like the grid lights better, but to each their own.

Is there anyway to paint on a black stripe onto a taillight that does not already have one, or a way to remove the stripe from a taillight that has one?

sure....PAINT and SAND PAPER!

although I'd guess taking it off would be a lot harder than spraying one on.
