Will thinner hurt the paint??

I was painting the inside wheel well and i got some overspray on the fender. just a little bit of black enamel paint. it came right off with a tad of paint thinner on a rag but i figured since the paint has clear coat on it, the actual red won't be affected. Is this true or will the thinner hurt the CC or the paint in some way? I ended up spraying some of that liquid wax on top of the area where the thinner was applied. looked as good as before.

When you apply gas or something that cuts paint to your car, you should IMMEDIATLY grab a bucket and some soap and scrub down the area it got on, and then afterwards wax it.

Car: Camaro of course
dont mean to be a ***, but it says pain thinner (some times even paint temover) on the side of it, now that does not sound like something you want to get on paint unless you want to remove it (like what it is used for).

An EXTREMELY lightly soaked rag of paint thinner can actually help our your clear coat, just dont stay in one spot too long while rubbing. It will help smooth out the pits and valleys and bring some luster back out.

Try a clay bar to remove overspray. I hear it works excellent!

Claybar treatments are specifically made to deal with paint overspray, tar, tree sap, oil exhaust residues etc... I wouldn't really use paint thinner on my paint unless I want to remove it...

goe with a clay bar fist. if that doesn't work that use dupont 3812s fast dry enamal reducer. it work great for little stuff like that. once your done with the 3812s wash that area and hit it with some polish.

I didn't know about the claybar treatment otherwise i would've tried that first. so i had to do something to remove the black from the red before it dried and the only thing i could think of was the thinner. i just put a tiny bit, not enough to penetrate the CC or the red paint i don't think. i'm going to wash the car thoroughly and wax it. i should have pics tomorrow.

I've used Bug and Tar Remover on the past..when some over spray got on my paint..it worked pretty well.....also..enamel reducer would work good too. I would never use lacquer thinner though on paint....

would have it been enamel or just the base coat under the clear coat, you'd have to worry... but as it is there is no way to worry UNLESS you had the car painted less than a week before.. clear coat is very resistant and paint thinner won't harm a hardened clear coat
