Making hood vents functional..need some input
I got the TA hood on my firebird, has two vents in the front and two towards the back sides...I was wondering if i made them functional, i.e. cutting the metal out from underneath them, how much of a difference would it make? I know it would keep the engine a lot cooler, but is it worth it? what about when it rains, im afraid of the water getting all in the engine and what not, please post some comments for me....thanx

i posted on this earlier. it won't work, if you look under the hood, the metal underneath those "vents" are vital to the structure of the hood. basically, it holds it all together. also, i think they may be a little too far foraward, and any air that even gets in there may not even reach the engine... may just stop on the cooling fan plastic protectant.

well i cut the metal out from behind there and everything seems to be working to me, i cut the front ones out today and i'll be doin the rear ones on tuesday in my auto class....The idea i had was let the cool air in the front and hot out the sides..which is what i would imagine it was designed for...but i'll let ya know how it goes. As for it keeping the hood together and being so vital, everything still seems just as sturdy to me
I have to differ with ya, I cut the metal out from behind ONE of the front vents and it helped ALOT, ever since then when I'm on the interstate or at higher around town speeds the car stays so cool that the fan won't come on. it doesn't matter how long I'm running at those speeds the car stays cool as a cucumber. it has been cut out about a year now and I haven't had any trouble with rain or anything, I will cut the other side out soon but I'm not in a big hurry. it did weaken the hood just a tad, now when the hood is up it twists a little more than usual but it's not bad.
