Getting tinted Thursday....:-)
Getting tinted Thursday....:-)
I made an appointment and made a down payment to get my '92 tinted next Thursday morning.
I'm pretty excited....but what shade to go with is still eating away at me. They'll do whatever you want if you sign a release, but Mass only lets you go 35%. I know i'm gonna kicking myself in the *** repeatedly when I see it if I get a legal job. But likewise if I a $200+ ticket

I don't know if this would work, but its worth a shot..
Go to your doctor or eye doctor, and tell him the sun and bright objects cause you to squint constantly. I have that problem, I guess my eyes are super sensitive. See if the doctor can write you an excuse, then if you would ever get pulled over, showing the cop might get you off the hook. I know some people have darker than legal tint for medical reasons; call your local police and see what they say about it. Let us know how you do.

Dan- 20% all the way around? Is this a thirdgen? So Staties have pulled you over and not given you a ticket? I think 20% is about what I wanted. Dark enough that it's tough to see in, but not so dark it's tough to drive right? I do want to try to get a medical exemption, but I don't know how to go about it. I'm not sure if I need my doctor or eye doctor to write a letter, or if there is a form somewhere I can get. They RMV also has to approve it and give you a little sticker about, so I don't know how long that takes and how **** they are about giving them out.
I have 20% tint all around, and yes it's a thirdgen. I have been pulled over by staties for speeding and once for wreckless driving and not once have they bitched about my tinted windows, or illegal exhaust. They even passed me for inspection without bitching too bad, they just said take it off if you get in trouble.
I live only 20 mins from NY, so it's not me you're seeing. This is my car....

I'd go with 15%. That's what I have on my car. Looks great, but it's not too dark you can't see out at night either. You won't get pulled over just for tint. I got a ticket for tint once when I lived in New Jersey. I was driving my SSEi, and hauling ***. My tag had expired the day before a well. So, I got a ticket for speeding, a ticket for the expired tag (which was really good since I was changing tags and it hadn't arrived in the mail yet). To throw in something extra, he gave me a ticket for my window tint. My SSEi is dark green and I have that gold reflective tint on there at 15%. I went to court and got out of the tag ticket and the tint ticket. I was switching from New Jersey tags to Oklahoma tags, and my Oklahoma tag hadn't arrived in the mail yet. I'm in the military by the way and had decided to switch back to Oklahoma tags since they were cheaper and we don't have state inspections in Oklahoma. My tint is legal here too, so I got out of it when I showed them that my car WAS registred when I got stopped, and was registered in Oklahoma where my tint was legal. Still had to pay the $200 speeding ticket. What REALLY sucked about it though, was when I got pulled over and the cop pointed out that my tag was bad, I told him that I was changing tags, and to look up the VIN and he would see it was registered in Oklahoma. Well, for some reason, it didn't show up in his computer so no he was accusing me of lying and he towed my car to the impound lot. I was about 5 miles from home and it was about 45 degrees out and I didn't have my coat. He wouldn't give me a ride, or let me use a phone. Just drove off after he had my car towed. So, I ran all the way home to stay warm. There wasn't a payphone until I got within a qarter mile of my house. No use then. So, I got home, and my Oklahoma tag and registration were waiting in my mailbox! AARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! So, I called a friend, and we went down to the impound lot, and I had to pay $350 to bail my car out. It had been there about two hours. I never got that money back. I have lots of respect for most cops, but that guy was a ****ing *******. Anyways, sorry to rant on in your tint thread. Just blowing off steam about that incident. Matt
Well since my car is silver im wanting that mear looking tint..to match my car but im going to put it on my self because i have done it once or twice and it dont turn out that bad...is that really against the law for that kind of tint?
Ok, well I ended up getting 20% and it looks GREAT! It's probably closer to 15 though because it's 20% film and factory windows are I think 80%. From certain angles it looks jet black, but it's really not half as much of an adjustment as I thought it would be driving. I haven't driven it in the dark but during the day you practically forget they are there. It really pisses me off that 35% is the legal limit....it simply would not have been what I was looking for. Well hopefully I'll keep out of trouble
2 years against peeling and bubbling
They do make you sign a waiver saying the tint laws were explained to you....but they aren't like some places who give you no warranty or even receipt if they do a darker-than-legal job...
