4th gen rears

Hey, how do 4th gen rears look on 3rd gen cars? I'm going to do this once I have my motor and tranny swapped, but I want to see how it looks first.

look like a normal rear end, except the rear tires stick out a bit more a couple of inches I think it was. you also do not need spacers for the rear to adapt the 3rd gen rims onto it.

Just a simple question but what are the benifits of the 4th gen rear?

nothing really.. they are just newer and usually have higher gears.

From what I read, they are just as strong as the 10 bolt found in most thirdgens.

You forgot that with the 4th gen rear you have discs on the rear unless you got a cheap 4th rear lol

I got mine for 200.00 with 30,000 miles on it. They have bigger disc brakes than the 3rd gens, mine has 3.42 gears as opposed to my old 2.73's and I dont need spacers when I get the money up for my c-5 wheels.

What about the brake lines / ebrake...and don't some fourth gens have ABS? How does all of that factor in...and is it really as easy as the tech article makes it to be?

I am not sure about the abs... My brake lines bolted right up. As far as the 4th gen e-brake lines, I had to shoten the outer housing about 6 inches and grind a flat spot on the ball on the end of the cable so it would fit into the splitter. Other than that everything bolted right in like it was made for the car.

Nice job, 91Dub...I can tell you spent some time detailing everything. The ABS on 4th gen rears isn't an issue; the brakes work fine without it.

BTW I think this the first car I have seen with a 4th gen rear and stock wheels; I thought they would stick out too far, but it looks good. I'll probably do the same on my 87 til I save up for some nice rims.

Yeah they dotn stick out too far... I still want to get some wheels with the correct back spacing so everything looks flush again.

That looks good. When people said they stick out, I kept getting pictures of those lowrider camaros with the gold spoked wheels. But that doesn't look bad at all. BTW, excellent job on the detailing 91dub.
