If you had a teal thirdgen and got it repainted, would you stay with teal?

If you had a teal thirdgen and got it repainted, would you stay with teal?

I want to get my teal '92 Firebird repainted this spring. Teal has grown on me a lot since I first got the car, but I'm not 100% sure I'd stay with it if I was getting it sprayed. I was considering the bright green some of the newer body style Mustangs are, with either a thick gold stripe up the middle, or a gold hood-bird. Hugger, Sunset Metallic or Ford's "tangerine" crossed my mind too as did some form of metallic blue, but it'll cost me a lot more $$$ if I stray too far from the original color and have to get the door jambs and engine bay painted. What's your opinion? I do have a good body shop connection, but am still on a budget. Also, I always told myself I'd never own a Firebird and not get a hood-bird....but I've also gotten "Nice Vette" so many times I'd hate to ruin it with such a giveaway, so I was considering the one stripe up the middle look. But I'd like to determine a color scheme that involves one or the other...

Wow...we're probably like the 2 people in existence to have owned both a teal and a yellow thirdgen...you really don't see many of either

I would suggest keeping the Teal. There are a few 91/92 Teal birds running around my area and I think it looks very nice. Especially with gold crosslace wheels (15's or 16's). I also think it would be pretty tough to change the color of a teal car, if you did not do the engine compartment and the jambs it would look very strange IMO.

Also I think stripes are very difficult to pull off on a 91/92. I dont think Ive seen any that looked nice yet. Id suggest looking into the (99+) SLP Firebird GT style stripe.

I'm not a big fan of teal myself...so:

dark metallic teal < medium metallic blue

and I couldn't be happier

Is this what you are talking about TAdan? That would look sweeeeet! Is that a decal, or is it painted on? Does anyone sell decals like that, or is it exclusively for the cars SLP does from the factory?

Yup, that is exactly what I am talking about It is a decal and is available. Im not sure if you can buy it directly through SLP, but I have seen it on non GT's so it must be possible to get it.

Im thinking Teal with black 16" crosslace wheels and that stripe...(I think the stripe comes in a few different colors) Try and get someone to photoshop it for you. I dont know if the hood stripe would be long enough for the 91/92 nose, 98+ cars have a shorter nose.

I also like the look of the 85-87 Hood bird on 91/92's I think that could look nice. Id suggest using silver decals and adding matching wheels. Too much gold and teal could be bad. Although like I said ive seen a few factory teal cars w/ gold wheels and a tan vert top and they look nice.

Do you have any pics of your car?

Or you could just keep your car stock (I like that look too) hehe

Teal on Camaros is my personal favorite. I like the idea you have of black GTA rims and a black stripe. I think it would look much better than the typical gold crap people always put on green cars.

Hmmm......gold GTA wheels and gold stripes and/or bird wouldn't look right on a teal car? Black decals would look good, but I've never cared for black rims. They just look dirty or plain or like a car that's missing it's hubcaps. I dunno. Chrome rims and silver decaling like you said might look decent...but I can't picture it. I don't think I've seen that combo done on a green car. I'll try to get some pics of her up here soon

I wasnt thinking chrome. I was thinking Silver rim, like maybe the 16x8 Formula High tech turbo rim (the concave one) With the silver WS6 center caps or maybe 16" SLP silver painted Firehawks (like on the car pictured above). I think 17"s may be look a bit too big. And some silver decals. You would also have to lower the car about an inch so it would look right.
Although like I said stripes can be tough to pull off correctly on thirdgen birds. I do like the 85-87 hood bird idea though...hmm

I'm biased, but yeah, I'd stay with teal. I can't ever see changing the color of my car, but it may see some stripes someday. Just my .02 - now do what you like.

Ok here is another idea. First of all, does the car have the optional aeropackage (gfx?) If so, id suggest an ASCD RamAir 1 hood (the 93-97 style) and a 91/92 T/A Formula spoiler. Now leave the car teal, but add a Lingenfelter Hurst Firebird style stripe in silver over the top of the car. And add some 17" 01+ WS6 wheels

I only think this would work if the car has the gfx though.

Sorry, just playing with other peoples cars...

Optional aeropackage? My car has the ground effects that flare off the car and come up the doors, is that what you are talking about? I thought all 91-92 Birds came standard with the same gfx, I didn't know there was an option package for better ones. Mine look really cool though so it's probably what you mean. Sorry I'm kinda new to Firebirds, and it doesn't help that there are almost no 91-92 Birds around my area to compare mine too. I've seen exactly two others (both red) since I bought my car in January....

Yup you have the W68 Sport Appearance package (GFX). It was actually an option on 91/92's although its pretty rare to see a base 91/92 bird without the GFX.

That looks more like Maui Blue. I had an 89 Formula w/the same exact color and that's what it was called.
This is teal-imo.
