You see the black part between the tailights, where the hatch lock is? ive seen some cars where that was very glossy, was that just from polishing or was there something else done to it to make it look like that? i really dont like the flat black it has now, need some tips on how to polish it up.

I just polished my Z28 Tail Lights....and I also did the black part. I polished it all by hand....now..I have a huge blister on my finger..oh well...your not doing a good job if you don't get hurt a little..haha...anyhow...there are alot of compounds you can use. I used "Perfect It III" by 3M....it worked VERY well...very happy with the results....I'll go snap some pictures here in a few.

all you do is use the compound and rub it till its nice and glossy? do you need to apply anything over it to keep it looking shinny and prevent scratches?

3....hope this helps you out. I used a Canton buffing wheel and a loose style buffing wheel on a grinder. The compound i used came from the eastwood company...comes in a hard tube. Works great.

I did mine a while back. I block sanded them with 500 grit and then bought a polishing Flap wheel with plastic polishing compound. And repainted them when I sprayed my car. Mine came out great and but the person who decided to do a burnout on gravel cracked my pass light in a few spots. This pic was from last summer. I also did the 3rd brake light in the spoiler.

well i started on the polishing, thumb through the pics to see the results so far. still got some work left on the center i feel. im using some real cheap polishing compound from zipwax not the expensive 3m stuff, and im doing it by hand so its taking long. but i think with another 30-40 minutes it'll look as good as TorchRay's

Wow that is awesome! I'm glad you mentioned to watch out for heat built up on your instructions. Can't stress that enough! Heat buildup is why I always hand sand plastic. I burn the stock tailights on my dually with my first polish attempt. Its amazing what mistakes will teach you!
Once I get a decent buffer, I may try polishing on some crap lens to get the hang of it...
