Finally cleaned my engine bay, take a look!!
Well after deleting the a/c and a.i.r stuff i need to clean the engine bay up some, i finally did that today..
Looks pretty good, i think; i will take more pics during the day light.
I also cut right through my pipes in front of the cats and i am now running open manifolds, sounds pretty great. Still waiting for my exhaust to arrive, but for now i am having fun being extremely loud..
Well thats my exciting day today, later!

Without ruining your thread, I (and many many others) have had no problems with this. Search the exhaust board. I know I drove my LO3 around all summer open manifolds w/o any problems (besides avoind all law enforcment).
well this is after the cat but i have exhaust cutouts and i ride around with them open, i have one on my formula and my 95 z, i think it sounds good, just dont hammer it around cops and you will be fine, its great to get at a red light next to a stang or honda and buzz them like a f-14 fighter jet

you should be alright, i wasnt sure where you cut it...just as long as you dont get all that cold air rushing into the heads....my buddy did that on his 89 formula 305 tpi, and and to go through his heads... heh
yeah i think i will leave the rest right there,
umm after i cut the last pipe, it kinda just moved like that.
so exhaust still kinda flows through the dual cats and out the rear pipes, but most of the exhaust and fumes comes out the slots now.
thanks for the compliments guys.

yeah after my suspension and exterior mods, i am going to try and find a set of slp runners and a plenum so i can try and polish them or just buy them polished and ported
while i have them off i was thinking about getting newer injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Looks good. I had all that crap out too to put my headers on, looked so much cleaner, but I need my AIR stuff and I can't live without AC

When you turn the engine off, if you are running open headers/manifolds, the engine literally sucks cold air through the the pipes and into the heads, when that 60* air meets your heads that are 250* bad things can happen, but as far as I have noticed as long as you have your y pipe on you should be ok, I drove around for a week while I was waiting for my cutout to come in with just the headers and y pipe and everything was fine.

Oh geez, isn't it a little dumb to be dragging out the old wives tales?

Jim,
When you say you are getting a new exhaust, do you mean a cat back? If so, you are going to have to have that cut you made rewelded back together, that's the wrong spot to cut.

i mean full exhaust.
slp 1 3/4 non air headers, coated; the y-pipe is for the dual cats.
also i bought the slp catack for the 91 1/2 - 92 cats.
so once i put those in, i guess i need to go to a muffler place and get some new pipes to replace the the cats made up and my exhaust should be complete and pretty nice sounding.

I have those same headers on my car I think you will be happy with them. If you can have them coated by jethot there sterling coating will really brighten up your engine bay. I hope to have mine done sometime this year.
Good Job on the engine bay!
