Looks good. But I would like to see what you can do with much thinner metal. You gonna be doing some frame work or something, or just want to see what peeps think?

I took welding too, looks pretty good. Put it in a vice and smack it with a 10 pound sledge... then you'll see how good it is
That does look pretty good but as said the real trick is doing thin sheetmetal. On the thicker metal like that you need to worry about getting good enough penetration on both peices of metal that its actually a good weld. Do as Metallic said and put it in a vise and give it a few good whacks and see how good it is.

looks like a really good bead...is that a t-joint? hard to tell in the pic. I have taken welding last year and this year at my hs, and I love it, like already said it is an awesome skill to have. its awesome now that I have a welder at home now too.

yes thats a t-joint weld. and thats pretty darn good. i took welding for 3yrs when i was in highschool. the only position i hate welding with stick os overhead everyother position i kickass in, maybe thats why i took 2nd in the state at the AWS NJsection contest.
but that looks pretty good. next big thing to do is get a great handel on Tig, do stainless steel, alumin, and mild steel. if u can do all 3 of those great, then ur good. it only took me 2 yrs to learn from oxyfuel welding to brazing to cuttinto stick, mig, tig, plasma cutting, arc gouging, and little custom fabriating stuff. the 3rd yr i was in welding i just repracticed what i already knew and goofed off. i was second best in shop, my friend had me in a few things but he also psent money to go to night skool also to get the jump on me. but he is friken good.
also if that was an inside corner weld the pieces of metal would be more even and look like a V.
edit: if that is Tig and im not sayin it isnt, i first thought it was a stick weld with 7018 but if that is tig thats awesome

i do some mig welding and oxy welding/brazing in school too...the best thing to do to test your welds is
1. use a thin metal
2. put in a vice
3. smack the hell out of it a few times until the weld breaks
4. if the metal around the weld breaks and not the weld itself, then it was a good weld, but if the weld breaks and you can see a clean edge of metal that was supposed to be welded then get some more practice
...
thats just what weve used as guidelines in school. destructive testing is fun for everyone!:lala:
