Trouble with hood opening

Hey on my dads 91 GTA and 90 Formula, when you pull the hood latch, the hood does not pop up, you kinda need to press on the hood and then it will unlatch. This does not happen on my 82, so I'm wondering what causes this.

The latch needs an adjustment. I can't remember how to do it, but when you look at the latch under the hood, there is a way to adjust, I'm sure that you can figure it out.

Also, try lubing the hoot latch, that helped mine out.

I just replaced my hood latch. Its like $26 from the chevy dealer. The old ones get worn out and filled up with crud. Slap a new one on in like 3 minutes and you're golden.

I second that loobing. Take some bearing grease or goop or whatever and just coat the apparatus. This is much easier and cheaper than replacin anything.....has worked on 3 of our cars.

First off, spray some litihium grease on there and see if that helps. If not, try moving the whole latch assembly down abot an 1/8th of an inch.

Also check the spring, and the cable for slack.

i pulled my spring on my hood out some more, then degreased the latch and put some new grease on it, then finally l moved the latch up some more to get proper popping action.
