Radiator shroud dress up....questions on making one...
Ok, i went out and got a flat peice of alluminum. Im going to try and mold it to fit good on top of my radiator shroud to try and dress that up a little. Its fairly shiny now...but you think i should sand it down when i get in on like everything else that i polished? Starting with like 180 and going to 2000? Also, i hear everyone talking about using "white rouge". Where can i find this? Is this like a compound that is a applied to buffing wheels?...if so...which type of wheels. Ive used canton, flanel and string before.

Reply to this post when you get some pictures up. I'm interested in seeing how it comes out. I'm thinking about making one as well.
Do not go above 400 grit.
I take it it's already smooth, so start with 320 wet and start sanding with a sanding block to get rid of any scratches or marks. After that, step to 400 wet. After you have a 'satin' look with the 400, you can start with the compounds.
Get yourself some tripoli (red compound) and white rouge (white compound). You can get some from www.eastwoodco.com or you can get 4 diff compounds in 1 pack from Sears for like 5.99 plus tax.
Use a canton wheel with the tripoli, and a loose wheel with the white rouge. Be sure to use the compounds sparingly as you don't need much at all. Good luck!
BTW here is the order you want to follow...
1 - 320 wet til scratched, marks, dings, are gone
2 - 400 wet til you get a 'satin' look
3 - tripoli compound with canton wheel
4 - white rouge with loose wheel
