if it is on dirt, bring a California Car duster, they are great for gettin rid of dust. Also, clean it in the mornin so its nice and fresh.
it's all in the details.........you just have to clean the best you can inside and out. the first car show i ever went to took me 1 hour to clean my car, now it takes me almost a full week because of the classes they stick me in. remember that it's all for fun so just enjoy yourself and don't be upset if you don't win something your first time out.
alot of it will have to do with the type of show but the easiest points are to make sure your paint is clean, your wheels are clean, use some tire wet on the sidewalls, clean and dust the interior, and clean the engine bay the best you can if you have to raise the hood.
good luck.

One word man... Zaino. That stuff kicks a$$. Make sure if youve got any aluminum parts under the hood that are visible at least give em a brush over with some 0000 steel wool. Made my ac lines look 10x better. A little trick ive seen guys do is when drying the car with a chamois, go down the car as if you were looking straight at it. Meaning if you are drying the hood for ex. dry down toward you. Also make sure you have a clean K&N filter and stuff like that. Attention to detail is what makes good cars great.

Yea it needs to be clean but just have fun. I was so worried the first one i went to cause i was parked next to my dads mint, low miles, fully restored 81 Z28. I was more worried about the car than anything else that i just kinda freaked out. I though next to the 2nd gen people would think mine was crap. Their reaction was just the opposite. I go up to Sonic every friday night, Not really a show more of a ton of guys getting together and thats the best thing i've done because theirs the real nice stuff and then theres like rusted out impalas on 24" wires. Just relax and enjoy the show, the best thing i did was walk around and just settle my nerves. I ended up taking best in class for the under 18 yr. old class against 15 other cars. I don't see how i did it but when shes waxed good she is hot.

Get there early to get the detailing over with. You can never dust often enough, especially with a black car. Be available to talk about you car and answer questions about it. Provide any media about your car and place it on a table for lookers to read (road test articles, etc)
Your personality is just as important as the apperance of your car, be friendly ! You never know if the person looking at your car is a judge or not. Greet anyone who is looking. Explain the unique details of your car. Its all about promotion, If you have a trophy wife or girlfriend put her in some tight shorts and have her dust the car
If you have somebody to watch your car for you, walk around the show and look at the other rides, talk to the owners and compliment them on thier rides. Stay for the awards even if you think you wont win anything and applaud the winners.
As you attend more shows you will recognize the same people and make new friends.
Things I bring to shows:
1985 PMD Merchandiser Book (used by salesmen to order Pontiacs, has color pics, real paint samples and interior fabrics)
1985 Pontiac Brochure
Several Original High Performance Pontiac mags from 84-85 featuring my Trans Am
A binder with photos, RPO code list, Magazine Adds, anything I can find that has to do with the 85 Trans Am
A framed pic that Bill made for me (in sig)
