repainted headlight pockets

Well i just got thru repainting my headlight pockets....they were pretty bad...here's some pics if anyone cares. $3.00 can of flat black car bumper paint really makes an improvement!

before: (all that whiteish area is badly faded paint)

well the car's being sold in 2-3 weeks, so i'm just touching up a few things. i need to re-black the metal trim going around the hatch window also. earlier i was planning on keeping the car and getting it repainted, and I was gonna put in a z28 grille with the chevy symbol and fog lights. front gfx was gonna be replaced to, and woulda gotten red decals instead of silver. (was gonna be a black w/ red stripes paint job....opposite of what i have now). then was gonna attempt to rebuild a 400 w/ my friend and stick it in the car, but.....i found a good deal on an '88 Z28 with a 350 pushin 300hp, and already done up pretty much how i wanted it so this one's leavin me soon

did you sand it down at all? And also did you apply a coat of clear afterwards? The buckets on my car are body color and I want to paint them white but i have no experience on painting cars or parts of them heh. I'd really appreciate it if you could just give a small detailed list of how you went about painting the buckets. You could post it here or just PM/email me. Thanks

well on MY car, it was as simple as anything could possibly be. no sanding was required, so all i did was mask the the lights and the body around the pockets, and sprayed away. yours would probably be more difficult though since it's body color. on your car, your headlight pockets are just another area of the car, with paint and clearcoat on it. on mine, it was just flat black paint, no clear coat. if you're looking for a quick fix, just spray 'em back white. but if you want them REALLY nice, you'll have to sand, then spray and clearcoat, but i'm not the guy to ask about how to do that...hope this helped

That looks pretty good!

Mine are faded also, but I didn't think they were painted, I thought its the color of the plastic. I was going to use some Black Chrome protectant on them. It worked on the black plastic trim on another car I had. I think its a silicone wax.

well its not that the white in my buckets is faded, its actually looking real good. But since its an IROC i just prefered the black buckets to create more of a contrast with the white car and black top. does anyone know how I would go about doing this?

yeah that's my bad, it is the color of the plastic. i don't know why i said paint, but hey i've been up since 3am, i can't think straight.

Black chrome?...is it a gloss paint? if so, i don't think it will look very good. i used flat black and mine is even a little glossy. i think gloss paint will make it too shiny

nikh23 - to do a good job you have to sand the paint first, then primer and paint. you could just spraypaint over the paint as is..it'd look good for a little while but would start to peel before too long. if you want to sand and all that, just do a search on preppin a car for paint, and just use the info on your pockets
