Two dark reds

GM has two different codes for dark red I think one was pre 88 and the other post.

Anyone know both paint codes? I think the earlier one is 74U--but not sure.

Also, which do you think looks better?

thanks!

i belive it depends on what plant they were made in. Norwood used a different type of painting technique then Van Nyse(sp?).

Mike I do believe that in 1988 Flame Red Met=74
Bright red=81.I think those were the only reds for that year.

My paint code is 74U. It's listed as Victory Red, but my car is closer to maroon. I got the name of the color from the rpo decoder on this site. I've been told that it might not be correct for my year (1987).

Mike,

Our cars are the same colour: Flame Red Metallic.

However, my console rpo code calls it Victory Red.

Have you noticed how there are now hordes of cars out there using a slightly lighter variant of it? All the auto makers have jumped on this bandwagon.

Yeah....sorry musta been the drugs
I've been calling it dark red for a long time but have no idea why...flame red metallic it is (or Victory red)

Yeah Ford has something a little different but not as good. I'll just repaint it factory 74U but with no pinstripes/decals---ala DX3. I do like the colour a little more now that I took off that red/black pintripe combo

I'd imagine a fresh paint job looks diffeent then
15 year old paint
