My custom CAI for the TA =D
Don't worry the duct tape isn't holding the filter on I just wrapped it to make sure there would be no air leakage. Never can be too safe
Check out my link in the sig for more pics of the bird and an explaination of what was used in the CAI

Yea the duct tape is purely for safe measure. The system so far is leak proof but I didn't like the connection at the filter so I reinforced it. The intake is entirely functional and gave a very noticable difference over the stock intake. Now you can hear the air get sucked into the filter
Total cost for the intake was 1 hour and $42

Those look cool.. look a lot like mine cept i used a stock piece cause im lazy
and to add something , you could probably get better results if you routed the filter underneath the battery tray (or where some cars have batteries if you know what I mean). you won't be gaining much by leaving it in the engine bay
just helpful suggestions I hope , criticism is good right ? lol

Yea comments are welcome. The way its right now is the farthest it can get from the alternator. Look at the pic and you can see what I mean. You are right about the underhood air. Right now I am fabbing up a heat shield for the cone. There is a space in the fender were the air comes in right next to the cone so I am going to do some fabbing over there. One big problem is space its very limited as you can tell in the pics. Remember I am working with a Firebird here not a Camaro so the nose curves down giving less space. As far the duct tape yea it will go eventually but for now I rather be safe. For me the biggest thing is functuality. It's nice to make it look good but I need it to work foolproof. I still have some kinks to work out but so far its a vast improvement from the stock intake shown here
oh I agree it's definitely an improvement , hehe
and the alternator being so close obviously isn't your fault , two of my friends have TPI cars and they are just a PITA to work on since everything is stuffed in there
I think just getting smaller clamps or turning them down so you can't see the ends would make it look tons better , and like you said with the duct-tape gone I think it will look very nice.

Well I need the two clamps that hold the air assembly to the upper radiator frame but the rest can go. Do you have a pic of the clamps you are talking about? I wouldn't mind getting some less obvious clamps that are also still easy to get on and off many times. The intake still needs some work I was thinking of spray painting the exhaust tubing black.

I do have a question for bnoon or anyone else who knows, what kind of hose did you use for you connections ? I started on making a new intake for my car but the best rubber tubing around here to be gotten is from a plumbers suppply. Below is my 'prototype'. I would like to get some thin rubber tubing/couplings along with alum or s.s tubing but, I (must be stupid) can't find any post that mentions where to get or what the thin rubber tubing/coupling is.
I've been thinking of doing this to my car, and have a couple questions/comments. I've only seen this done on fuel injected cars. Mine has a carb. Would there be any benifit from doing this? Wouldn't it be better to try and get the intake farther from the rad (not as warm...)? Why's everybody so down on duct tape? It's even the shiney, heat resistant kind...

Deadbird you can get those type of couplings at your local speed shop. I noticed some of you guys used plastic piping for the intake. The only problem with that is the heat will cause the tubing to eventually crack. That's why I went with the exhaust tubing. Deadbird what air box is that?

Trans87.. that's my dilemma.. there are no speed shops in my area (that I know of) which is why I ask. It's something I'm 99% sure I'd have to order.
The airbox I have is off a 3.1 Lumina... it took alot of walking the junkyard looking at all cars to find the right 'factory' looking aibox that fit the location w/o having to do extensive mods. The only 'mod' that really has to be made is cutting off the 2" 'air horn' on the inlet side to make it fit.
