Medal trim

The medal frame that surrounds the rear windshield, has anyone repainted their's? If so what did you use? Mine is all rusted out and fades. Same with the medal around my t-tops.

I have,

First Use some sand paper to get the rust off, this takes alot of time since unless you take the glass off the car you have to do it by hand. Primer it with some good rust preventing/converter if you cant get all the rust off. (I got the rust off mine, and then used some etching primer). Then I sprayed it with some high gloss rattle can stuff (truck&van I think) THen I clear coated it with some rattle can, its been about 5 years now and its still looks good. I also did my T-top painted arears the same way.

Oh yea, tape and paper you whole back end of the car, I did from the doors back, just to be on the safe side I had just had the car painted and didn't want overspray.

There was some discussion earlier about removing this trim completely. But I forgot if a conclusion was reached.

Can you remove the metal trim on the rear windshield? Or will it hurt the glass or entire rear hatch in the long run?

Some detail shop told me to go get some flat black paint and brush it on, has anyone ever done this?
