nevermind... it was a 305 I found.

 

There is a guy local selling a red 87 Iroc. Heavily modded 305 with 5 spd and ttops. Paint is incredible and interior has 4th gen seats. Prolly just needs a good cleaning. I think he has been asking 5k. Prolly negotiable.

 

No, I live in IL and bought an ARK car to avoid rust. What I bought (sight unseen) though was 2 dented doors, 1 dented fender, cracked windshield, wasted interior, warped bumper covers, sloppy suspension and a 2.8 with 148K & auto trans that died 1K after I got it. True, a lot of my cash went to mods like the Engine/Trans/Rear swap and the 91-92 Formula body conversion, but don't forget about things like rebuilding the suspension w/new bushings, struts, shocks etc. and all the other little things it'll undoubtedly need.

But let me say that I don't think a nice looking IROC with a new crate motor for $3850 sounds bad at all. Good luck with it.

Thats funny you mentioned that. I went by and looked at it tonight. I was going to buy it until I found out it had a salvage title.

I haven't heard back from the guy in VA so I guess the deal is off. I found another red 86 iroc in Tulsa for $2999. I'm having my cousin go by and look at it tomorrow. Looks good in pictures.

I have to admit I wish I knew, or had checked for thridgen.com before I bought my 3rd gen. You guys have been very insightful obviously from years of experience. My hat off to you all. This is way cool except if I had known before I bought my toy, would have saved $$$$$$$.

Texas is a tough place to find a thirdgen but they do pop up once in a while.

I will keep an eye out for you. Would you consider a GTA? There is a 350tpi hardtop white with tan interior rolling around here. The owner is on this board. Well kept car. He is looking for 3500 obo.

Swapping in a 6 speed is not too difficult if you wanted to head that route.

 

honestly I don't like firebirds _at_all. I'm calling tomorrow on the tulsa car. If it sounds good I'll fly up and pay cash and drive it home in one day. I own a .com that happens to specialize in used car dealership websites http://www.sitesfor.com . I'm going to offer them a lifetime website with my company in exchange for the car, or one year free and the iroc for $2000. Hopefully they'll sign a lifetime with my company because it doesn't cost me anything We'll see!

Where are you guys finding all these clean Iroc's for $1,500? In Ohio you WILL NOT find a clean iroc or z28 for under $2500 (and thats a hell of a deal). Unless of course it has no drivetrain or the interior is stripped out. He said this car has a brand new crate motor and tranny. As long as he is not getting bull****ted its a decent deal for the car given the undercarrage is in decent condition when he gets it. The retail on a loaded 86' with around 100,000 on the odometer is around $3500.

 

The deal in VA fell through. He said he never checked the rust in the floorboards. That was close. I found this one in Tulsa and bought it for $2500! I'm flying up next monday and driving it home. The lady had a 350TPI put in it last year and its been her daily. Since its $2000 cheaper then those other ones I was looking at now I've got 8K in mod money. I can't wait to get started!
