dude,

dont use amorall (sp) it takes the natural minerals from your dash etc and makes them dry up and crack..use something better like meguires or mothers or something else other then armorall...its not that good anyways..

whatever you use to shine your engine bay/tires, use that on your vinyl on your interior..i know i do and it shines amazingly..

I use a Meguiars rubber/vinyl protectant and it shines really good. Depending on how much you put on, it will give a slight shine...or if you spray more it gives a "wet" shine.

I never put the stuff on my original, 12 year old, perfect dash until one day a few months ago. The very next day it was cracked. Whenever I get a new dash, I will put NOTHING on it. I dont like the shiny glare anyway.

you guys must be doing something wrong, because i always use the armor all wipes on my dash, as my dad did since he bought the car in 87 when he used the spray... i still have the original bottle he used. I have no cracks other then what was there. I did see stuff that wont attract dust, im gunna try that out next cause i hate the way dust settles on that nice, flat black dash...

You guys must not detail your cars a lot if the same bottle of Armor All lasts 16 years. :sillylol:

I've used Black Magic, didn't like it much. I switched to Armor All and haven't had any probelms with cracking or anything.

I've used armor-all for quite some time (detailed cars 5 yrs) and have never had a problem, just don't put it on too thick and maybe wipe it with a towel when your down and it won't glare and collect dust. I wouldn't blame it directly to cracking your 10 yr old dash, when you neglect vinyl for a long time it might look fine but it gets hard and brittle, then let it soak up a bunch of protectant and thats what happens.

The problem with Armor All is that it's base is alcohol. Alohol by nature dries up oils. Armor All has a protectant sealant in it, but it's required that you continue to use Armor All or the dash will crack.

The best bet is to use a product that has no alcohol in it. This way you don't have to continue using that product if you don't want to. I use a product from 3M. It doesn't give the plastic the shiny look, but gives it the natural look and repels dust.

I use the Blue Coral stuff. It actually made my dash softer the first time I put it on after getting my car. The stuff is great.

I used to use Armor-All (the correct spelling, by the way), but with all the stories about it, I'm sticking with what works more specifically for the vinyl and leather. I may try it on the intake for my carb though. Good idea.

Ive used Armor-all on every car Ive owned. And never had any thing crack on me. I use it monthly on my cars. Armor-all has been around along time. If the product was the cause of cracking dashes, ect. Dont you think they would be out of business?

Also.. dont you think the guys who spent the time formulating this stuff. Just might have been a little smarter then your average Joe. Seems like they would have thought "Gee if we put to much alcohol in the mix it might dry out the products!"

IM not saying it the best thing out there. I just dont think its the direct cause of the dashes cracking.

About a year and a half ago i bought a dash pad, put it in, cleaned it up, a few weeks later it had 2 huge cracks in it. I figured it was the sun though, i started using a sunsheild thing and it didnt' get any new cracks. I use armor-all on my new cars dash since september and haven't had a problem yet.

Gague cover cleaning

What about cleaning the plastic Gague cover? I bought the only one I could find at a bone yard the other day, and it has spots on it. Windex won't take it off. What can I clean it withI broke my other cover, lol.

The problem with Armour All is the silicone it contains...here guys read this article found here . It tells you the harms of silicone and use a product like Siligon its found here I haven't really seen it in stores though.

Ive always used armor-all on my cars. i like the shine, and it seems to last a long time. Although ive cracked two dash pads...so maybee thats the reason! Definatly not gonna use it when I get a new dash now that I know about the cracking problems.
