what the hell is this stuff
alright i just got done stripping all my wheels and one of them looks very ugly, i though the clear coat just didn't come off all the way but it did. What are these white lines on my rims, i dont want to reclear coat my rims with this stuff of them.
if you are wondering if this is the only rim with it, yes it is the only rim with this stuff on it. If you know what it is, how do i get rid of it? Thanks in advance guys.

there were small cuts in your clear coat originally and what you see is the oxidation of the base metal. When I polished my rims the oxidation just sanded right off. If you are not polishing, I would try something like a gray scotch bright pad.

so it will come off really easily. Like if i use a Scrub Pad, like the back of a spong, it will get it off? Or do i have to sand those grouves out of the metal to get to the oxidation?

I don't know if an ordinary scrub pad will do it. the gray scotch brite pads are a abrasive pad sold just as such(like at home depot with the sand paper), instead of sand paper. I would try to sand "with the grooves" so that it can get inbetween. I have not actually done this, however, I know when I polished my wheels that oxidation came off pretty quick with the sand paper.

Its hard to say. Hit it with some metal polish and see if that gets rid of it. If not, its left over clear coat. Even though it may seem that all the clear is removed, its probably not.

so its a gray scrub pad sold near the sandpaper in homedepot? Alright thats alot. Now for a different question for you.
shuld i just polish my wheels or should i reclear coat them? I mean reclear coating them will be ok but i have plenty of aluminum polish.

I would first try the alum polish like 88 WS6 TransAm GTA said if that doesn't work then I would try the gray scrubbie, then polish.

steel wool will work some but not as great as a scotch brite pad. but give it a try. i use steel wool to clean my rims and it doesnt harm them so whats the loss in trying?

If you decide on the abrasive method, the steel wool is the equivelant to about 1000 grit sandpaper. And make sure you stay with the grooves like novass said, or you'll have a shiny flat spot surrounded by grooved dull gray aluminum

EDIT: After studying your pics for a min, I don't see any grooves in the aluminum. If that's the case, it should make it a bit easier for you.

yeah there are groves in the aluminum. I'kll try yoiur wooden dowel idea, sounds like something i would do wrather than take steel wool and scratch my rims. We have a bunch of dowels in the tool shed so this might be my lucky day. Thanks alot guys, I'll tell you and show you how it came out.
I just have to get over my soar throat and fever before going outside todo that.
Thanks again.
