what would you pay for each of these?

I'm sellin my car, and I'm trying to decide if it should sell it as is, or get a $400 or so paint job and then sell it. If I sold it as is, the "problem" areas are that the hood is unpainted, the side body moldings are starting to fade, as well as a small patch on the rear deck. I have a pic of the car as is, and a photoshop of how I would get it painted. I guess I'm asking how much more you'd pay for the newly painted car. If you just walked by and saw my car with a for sale sign, and saw it was a 3.1L with 120K miles, how much extra would you pay for the car with the new paint job.

(The photoshopped pic is kinda dark.....the body lines don't show up very well, but the pic i gave to the person to photoshop it wasn't an easy pic to color-change)

(Last thing...the wheels have brake dust on them and are in a shadow, but they are as bright as the car paint when they're washed, so try to imagine them like that....and although the photoshop pic has TTII's on it, I will only be selling it with the red rims)

Well if I saw the car as is and saw it was only a V6 under that hood with all those miles, I wouldn't consider buying it unless I had an engine ready to swap in and the car was cheap. I'd probably pay $2000 tops.

If it was painted and the paint was only a $450 job, it better look good. When I was looking for cars, I saw one that was advertised as "mint with a new paint job" but the paint job was crap. If the paint was bad and I'd have to repaint it anyway, I'd rather buy the car without paint and paint it good the first time.

However, if the paint was a good paint job and the body was good (no rust), I would probably pay $3000 and swap the engine out for something to back up the looks.

so what, you think maybe $800-$1000 more with new paint than with old? if i can get a $400 paint job, and get about $800 extra for the car, i'll prob. go for it

and a $400 paint job will be pretty good....my buddy got his '78 camaro painted there 2 years ago and it still looks great...and yeah, my car's body is completely straight, no dents or rust, immaculate interior, engine/tranny running perfect and no leaks, etc etc. Basically everything is in about as good shape as it could be, the only thing in question is the paint.

$500? I could make $200 selling the gfx, $300 more for wheels and tires.....no way this whole thing would only sell for $500. This isn't some dirty POS, it's one of the cleanest i've seen...the only downside is engine size.

I'm not sure what I'd be willing to pay unpainted, I'd pay a lot less knowing that I'd have to strip off a brand new piece of crap cheap assed Maaco paint job.

i'd be doing prep work myself....so it'd just be $400 for supplies and time to spray it....it won't be show quality, but will be really nice

but anyway, that's not the point, i just want a quick paint job and then get rid of the car.......how about you see my car and the paint looks great....you don't have a clue whether it's a $300 job or a $5000 job....how much more would you pay, just based on how it looked, not whether you think it might flake later

From: "No one cares if you're in before the lock!" - Best quote ever.
Keep in mind, the replies you're getting are from people who get their cars done for 2-3k in paint...Metalli and Jim will tell you the same, they know quality craftsmanship, and buy things accordingly.
However, to someone who doesn't know that much about paint and has money and wants a shiny, cool looking car, I think you definitely would benefit from a nicely wet-sanded Maaco job.

I would say maybe $3,000 tops for a new paintjob...

The V6 with that miles is what's killing the car......

It really all depends on the buyer. Some people are looking for something with all show and won't research it much and buy it on impulse. Others, such as myself, would ask for a receipt for the paint job. Seeing it was only $400, I would question how good it is. Even though you prepped it yourself, how do I know that you know anything about body work? Not raggin on ya, just making a point. You could be a great body man or a terrible one, I have no idea.

I think if you find someone buying on impulse, a cheapo paint job will definately raise the price and make you some money. But if you find someone like me, watch out

And Azure- I WISH my car had a $2000 paint job. My car has its share of scratches, swirl marks, a couple door dings, and spider webbing on the nose. But you're right, I want a quality job when I get it painted which is why I'm letting the paint wait until I can afford something good.
