Depends on how thorough you are planning on going with your clean.

If you take all the interior plastic out and give it a new paint job (krylon fusion paint) to add a shiney new luster.

And then take the seats out and remove the carpet, add new insulation. That will help give it a new fresh smell.

I took my carpet out, and draped it over to saw horses and then had at with a pressure nozzle hose (NOT A PRESSURE WASHER!) and some bleach, and it worked great. But I am dying my carpet, and it is already tan, so I wouldnt suggest bleach for you *but I have heard bleach doesnt dye our carpets*.

Then you can replace the headliner if you have smoke stains or whatever in yours.

In the end it just depends on how much time you wanna spend cleaning.

My whole interior process has now entered week 4.

I'd suggest just taking the seats out, and giving your car a good steam cleaning.

I have grey interior that I got from a junk yard. When I got it all, the carpet had blood, rust, and anifreeze all over and the small about gagged me. I'm assuming yours is not as bad. If you don;t have a hot water carpet cleaner, rent one. If you want to buy one, mine is a Hovver and it kicks @$$. It is perfectly safe to use on the door panels and pretty much everything but the headliner. Also get a bottle of fabreeze and a bottle of Resolve carpet cleaner. I'd take the 10 minutes and pull the front seats and the rear seats out so you have a clear shot at all the carpet. Use cold water for everything else but the actual carpet machine. Lighty wet the carpet you are about to clean, let sit for 2 minutes, then spray resolve on the ara. Take a scrub brush and apply medium pressure using the"wax on wax off" metod. Let that sit for 10 minutes, then use the carpet cleaner on the area you just prepped. This same metode works wonders for your seats as well. after tyou get done, leave the car out in the sun for the day and it should be good to go. The Fabreeze I mention early is to use whenever you want to in the process to get rid of any mildew stich of your carpet stinks.

EYEROCK89 >> that is the exact same thing I have done and it worked great... borrowed the steam cleaner from my uncle who used to do pro carpet cleaning. Would HIGHLY recomend this method to anyone.

I also have a grey interior in my '90 RS. I use Prolong's Super Cleaner, it's one of the best cleaners I've found, the other is Meguiar's cleaner. Vaccum clean the car first. Then just spray (work in small sections), let sit for about 20 seconds, and wipe with a clean rag or towel. These cleaners can also be used on plastic, if it has a grainy surface, you can use the cleaner and a soft toothbrush to remove all the grime. My interior look pretty clean to start with, but with these products, its not hard to get a big towel full of grime (on both sides) after doing the seats or carpet; not like those weak carpet or cloth foams that don't work. Now it looks brand new. They even remove old stains.
I also use ocasionally Odor-X from Turtle wax, to give the interior a clean scent.
