I need opinions i have a check coming from a guy who is buying my bird and i'm looking for a new toy. The deal i had on a gorgeous yellow 92 formula 350 fell through last night so i have an 87 iroc Z a guy is holding. It's actually sitting behind his shop and says he'll hold it for me if i can give him 3k for it. The bodies perfect pretty much stock but the hood is peeled around the grill inserts. I started looking at some hoods for it seeing as how i'll have about 1500 to spend right away because the guy buying the bird is giving me 4500. I found a harwood 6" cowl hood but its a lift off. I'd like to stay between 4-6" becasue i am building this one to be a beast and i want people to know i mean business. Does anyone know of a 6" bolt on hood for an 87 iroc i'd rather have something that bolts to the stock stuff than having to lift it off everytime omeone wants to see. Also has anyone with a 6" cowl had trouble seeing over it granted i'm 6'4" so it shouldnt be a problem

Thats the one i was looking at come to think of it i don't think the cowl would even be able to bolt on to the hinges becasue it would hit the windshield. Does anyone have a pic of a camaro with a 6" er on it. I am starting to like the look of the 4" though

u wanna know what ricers honestly think when they see a cowl hood that tall, they think "man what a ******* peice of ****" not to be rude, but all my friends own imports and i can tell ya straight up thats the impression they get.

Who cares what ricers think? Who cares what anybody thinks? It's your car, do what you like. Personally I think 4 inch is even pushing it, but 6 inches would be way too high, but like I said it's your car so do what YOU like. Don't do something just because of what someone else will think.

6" is way too big in my opinion. The only way I'd ever get a cowl hood over 3" tall is if I needed it for clearance.

Unless you have plans to put in a big block with tunnel ram and roots supercharger, 6" is completly unneccessary, even for an all drag car. 6" would be very hard to see over if you are not tall.

imo 3" is even to tall, id go 2 1/2" and bolt on is better cause itd be a pain in the butt to have to take it off each time to check oil..show it off..yada yada

if you just want a cowl hood for looks, imo 2 1/2" is pefect, the only reason to go over that is if you absolutly need to.

IMHO i wouldn't do anything to "intimidate" people. normally you just come off as being a jerk. anyhow, on the hood thing, my dad has a 4" bolt on and it's bad! i am getting one early next year.

You rehashed a post that was 2 months old. You had to PURPOSELY dig a thread up about some kind of import bashing. If that's not troll...I don't know what is.

Whatever - welcome to the site and enjoy the thirdgen community. It's a barrel of laughs.

is the 6" to hide your Turbo 350 that you keep lieing about, or to win more car shows? really tho 6" inches is way too much for a poser like yourself. like said above dont go above 3 unless you "realy" have something under it, not just made up engines

For myself, I plan on keeping whatever I eventually throw in between the fenderwells hidden underneath a stock hood - but for someone else, maybe they see the need to stick a cowl induction hood on. I find cowl induction better looking than forward-facing scoops, but when I see some guy with 4 inches of extra clearance, I want to ask him to pop the hood so I can see if it's justified or not. I dunno, I like the plain-jane look better, well, as plain-jane as our cars get...

Just FYI, I have a Victor JR on top of my 355 and with a 1" spacer and a drop base air cleaner with a 3" element, the dang thing BARELY clears the 2.5" hood. I sometimes wish I would have went with a 4" so I could run a taller aircleaner for more flow. On second thought, anyone want to buy a cowl hood???LOL

unless you have 600+ hp to put a 6" cowl on dont do it cuz #1 it is not asthetically pleasing #2 they made it for a reason ie a supercharger or hugeass air cleaner and #3 your car doesnt have 600 hp .... just IMO

you might just want to try to lose the spacer and run a larger air cleaner and see if that nets you more power...... just a idea.....

Thanks for the thoughts, but I did try it and the with the spacer the car actuall picked up a MPH, and I usually do not run an a/c at the track anyway. My reasoning for the taller a/c was so I could run the a/c at the track and run one of k&n's lids to see if that helped me pick up a mph or so. Right now, the priority is a better rear and tranny so I can get this thing to hook...with traction, it should really pick up over a half second ET considering my best 60ft to date is a 2.04...not so good.

plus if your hood is too high it won't pass inspection, don't know what area your in but in PA 6" won't pass
