I missed having my light underneath my hood when I got my fiberglass SS hood.....especially at night. I just got it working and it works just like a metal hood now....here....take a look...:lala:

That SS hood looks awesome, the picture of that hood on the ASCD website does not look good, but looking at your car, that hood looks great. They should use your photo as their sample....How much hood clearance do you get with that hood compared to stock?
435$ isn'tn bad, the fit looks GREAT...

Thanks alot man, from the top of the plenum to the underside of the hood..there is probably atleast 2 1/2 inches or so..maybe a little more. I was going to put hood pins in it...but decided not to....I love the looks of hood pins....but I thought it might ruin the appearence of the rest of the car. I got my hood on sale last year and got it for $499.00 shipped to my door. I'll make sure to post a new thread when I get my new wheels.

How does the fiberglass hold up to the heat in the engine bay?
Right now I am running an RS hood in place of my stock Iroc hood because the air cleaner wouldn't fit, it's an air cleaner off a 62' vette...very tiny, very restrictive, but it was the only thing low enough to fit....those 2 extra inches sound good....
Does it come black or white?

Flynlow...I attached a ground wire to the metl plate that the light is on and then ran the wire down to one of the strut bolts...and grounded it there. I hid all of the wires and it looks great.
Spdfrk1990..thanks man...I appreciate it!...not to many people around here give me any compliments on my Z28 and it's great to hear every once in awhile. To answer your question...my 91 has almost 84,XXXX on it....it's creepin up there....and I do need a new set of valve seals
...but I clean it everyday..I don't drive it when it rains...it's parked in the winter with a couple car covers tossed on it!

I read somewhere that you can use those reel type lights that come under some pickup truck hoods. They have enough cord to go all the way to the back of the car! I haven't found one yet--but when I do they're going into all of my cars! I heard they're under $40 new from the dealer.

good question.....I'm using an old set...that wouldn't hold up a stock metal hood. They work great when it's warm outside....but when it's cold...the hood will not stay up at all. I think there is a set available for the 1982 CrossFire Injection hoods (fiberglass)..I'd like to check into those....

I looked on gmpartsdirect.com, but couldn't find it in their catalog. If you e-mail them your VIN and tell them what you want they'll return a part number. Then you can order from them.
Nice car- what does it do in the 1/4?

Thanks for hte heads up swerve-driver!..I'm going to order one asap. And about the 1/4 mile times...I really have no idea...it's never been at the track. A stock 1991 Z28 L98 should run at about 14.35 at 96 mph..(got info on the 1991 Z28 Drag Test in a magazine)....which is pretty descent. Not sure what mine would run at...hopefully in the 13's....?? There are still a few more things I want to get for my engine too.

Hi found your post while doing a search. How did you bolt it two the hood? The fiberglass is thin, kinda hard to get a nut behind it.
I have an SS hood on mine and i miss having the light as well. Did you ever find struts that work for the lighter hood. I have one good strut on mine it holds the hood for awhile but when its cold it falls.

I actually used "JB Weld".....a 2 part epoxy to hold the light in place. I've had it attatched forever..and it works fine. My hood struts are completely shot....and I have to use a plastic poll to hold the hood up....

I use the struts made for 82/83 "plastic hood"(thats what the Gm book calls it)
part#14045326
They just jumped up in price I believe
Gm parts direct carries them
I have a Harwood 2 1/2 cowl hood they work perfectly
Hope that helps
I think your struts are up-side down 84 custom...I'm pretty sure it doesnt affect the operation

funny I thought hooking the light back up was something everybody did when they put on fiberglass hoods. was the first thing I did when I got my car back from paint. all it took was a little ground wire. I hate the fact that new cars don't have a light.

HaHa...Its my fault i brought this post back from the dead.
Pop revites....They worked great to connect the light to the hood! I even used the little fasteners that clip into the hood to hold the wiring harness.

My hood came with a little bracket. You just kinda wind the spring around it and bolt it to the hood. The hood has mounts already in place for the spring to bolt on.

Where did you get the grill insert? That really sets the hood apart from the others. Very nice indeed.

A lighted grille would look good at night.
I wouldnt want to block the air flow over the TB/plenum though. When the hood is closed if you look thru the grill. You can see the TB is right behind the opening. After installing the ss hood. I felt the tb after going for a long drive and it was cool to the touch. its been in the 50s so that helps as well. The plenum was cooler too, then before with the stock hood. On the highway the throttle felt a little more responsive as well. It did drop the intake temps just by bolting it on. Not mention the weight savings.
I want to fab up something like the 4th gen ss hood. And pull that cold air into the motor. But keep the rain out.
