Does your car cover do this???

I got this car cover form autozone....only like 30 bucks...but geeeez.....look at my car! I went to advanced auto and they had one that looked really nice. The cover was gold...it had like a shiney material on it and it felt more like a soft vinyl. It was like $45.00....and I'm going to ask them if I can return it if I'm not happy with it. I think I'll buy it tonight

I use a cheap $30 parts-america cover and the only time it did that was when it was filthy dirty. Wash the cover, and only put it on the car when the car is clean, and you shouldn't have those problems.

I believe this is the problem right there. Car covers were not designed to protect your car from rain they are actually porous so that moisture doesnt build up underneath them.

put it on the car when the car is clean

lol..that's the thing.....it's never dirty...I don't even drive it in the rain or anything. Like you said...the car cover is just dirty....but I really can't wash the car cover everyday. I wonder if I could put my car cover no it....then buy one of those huge blue tarps.....ya know.....those tarps that are water proof and alot of roofers use.

okay quite simply put you know how if you let water sit on your car you get water spots? The water spots are the dirt that is in the water that gets left behind. What you have the equivalent of is water spots all over they just dont look like it. If you leave your car out in the rain cover or not youre going to have dirt deposits all over it

it's not like that with my car. If it's covered..and it has rained...then all there is on the car is a bunch of dirt....no water spot's at all. When it's not covered...there is no dirt....just thousands of water spots that I can't get off witout using some kind of compound or glaze...i know..it really dosen't add up...but..that's how it's been working over here I just wish I had a nice warm garage

let me try again, the water spots, and the dirt that settles underneath your cover are one and the same, all of that dirt is coming from dirt in the water. The only difference is how it settles and sticks to your hood, with the car cover it kind of stays powdery and doesnt go accross evenly. This is because of having the cover on the car. When there is no cover the water with the dirt in them just sits and the dirt bakes onto the car as the water dries....this results in round shaped dirt spots that are harder to get off then with your cover

make sense now?

I see what your saying...and it sounds right...but I think most fo the dirt is embedded in the cover. I'm from Indiana....and right now...there are tons of farmers....farming their crops. So...I think the dust is in the air, settling on the cover, then when it rains, the dirt soaks through, leaving a crap load of dirt on the paint. Make sense? I think both of us are right

My car cover does the same thing and its a higher end cover, I am right next to a freeway and get tons of dust and dirt so that would explain it. Drives me nuts. Its doesn't seem all that easy to wash the cover you would need to drape it over something I guess you could do it right there on the car but then you will be pushing all that nasty dirty water onto your car.

Yeah, my cheap *** Pep Boys car cover does that when it rains. I don't use it much anymore, only for snow so it is much easier to clear off.

I guess we learned the hard way that this is not an item you should skimp on the price. Best to get a good one and cough up the dough.

I got mine from Big Sky car covers that advertises in the back of Car&Driver. It cost about $150 and is the Kimberly Clarke fabric. It is a really nice cover.

Yes but as stated earlier a good car cover is porous so it can breath and not trap mildew and such, if theres enough dust and dirt where your at I don't think it would make a difference. A plastic tarp would probably keep the dirt out and its real cheap but it would not be good for the car because it will trap humidity which equals moisture because it doesn't breath.

I really doubt that it can detroy your paint....I have minr under a car cover every year for the winter....I would hate to have my car sit in 12 inches of snow with ice on the bare paint.

Well again if you have a cheap cover that does not allow the car to breath it could be worse than having no cover over extended periods of time. If you have no garage like me and use your car regularly it is better to have a cover than not even a cheap one, it will at the very least keep the UV sun damage down and as long as its not sitting to long the car can breathe when you take the cover off couple times a week. If you are storing your car outside all winter and not driving it I think I would use a good cover with soft interior lining and a tarp to keep the heavy moisture out. If someone could scientifically explain why this would be worse than leaving it sit directly in the elements all winter I would like to hear why!

well the idea is that if you put a tarp over moisture will build up underneath because it cant get out and do scary things to your paint. This is why car covers are porous. The IDEAL solution if it is being stored outside is to have a car cover directly on the car, and then build some sort of structure over it (basically 4 posts in the ground) and then lay a tarp over that. This way the car can still breathe through the cover but it isnt directly exposed to the elements, if youre super ambitious you can even have the car sitting on wooden planks so its not directly on the ground. Someone on here did a real professional job of building one and has his car in his back yard i think, its kind of like a home made garage for the sole purpose of storeing your car.
