Dont you just love a black 3rd Gen(lots of pics)

Well here is my car. It is an 84 Z-28. I have some before and after shots of it. Got it over the summer. The hood and front end was messed up so we went to the junkyard and luckily found a black 87 Iroc so we snagged the hood and front end. The tranny was also going out so I got that rebuilt. The hood and front end could use some good paint. Plans...just ordered a new flowmaster catback and cat. Also planning on getting an open element pretty soon. Oh and Im going to take the decal of the back window. How can I do that without scratching the window? I dont know how you guys will feel about the rims They were on the car when I got it. Enjoy

Pics of when I first got it

(hauling the parts home )

You need to get some grid style taillights, i think it would really improve the back of your car . Looks good!

Nice, the nose was the the first thing i switched when i got my z. I really cant stand the 82-84 front ends (no offense to anyboard members cause its just my opinion ) The only kewl thing about those to me is the vent at the bottom but it seems to have too much of a shape point to it. Soon Ill be putting 91/2 Z28 gfx on my car also.

Right at the moment Im putting a L98 into it, but i skinned my knuckles so im taking a break. I like the rims a lot on your car, and like the other person posted, grid tail lights will make the car look a bit nicer in the rear.

At least your front end was fixable though .. i wish i was able to fix this but it went so much as pushing the firewall back.

Exactly. You may also want to try and use an razor blade to help it off along way. While you add heat, (I use a hair Dryer), slide the razor blade under the decal and work your way accross the length of it. Should come right of and you won't scratch the glass. Great looking car!! Can I ask how much you paid the yard for that front bumper. I am currently pricing some.

Nice! I might be picking up an 84 next week for a budget car project for my website. Not sure if its a LG4 or a L69, but either way I plan to mod the motor. I'm just really hoping its a posi 3.7x rearend!! I'm on the lookout for a 85-90 front clip and lower sideskirts, want to install them before I paint it (plan to paint it the week after I buy it!). I already got the 85-90 upper sideskirt, rear bumper, and rear 1/4's laying around. I'm going with black too! Nice job!

The only thing I would suggest as others have is getting a set of IROC/91-92 Z28/RS Grid tail lights. IMO they are the best looking of all the 3rdgen camaros.

Thanks for all the compliments guys I definetly agree about the grid style tailights. Hopefully I will get a pair soon. Im in the process of getting some hood louvers too. Also to help the appearance I will probably put some silver Z-28 emblems on and some clear side markers. Which look better, silver or red?

Shifty, I paid $120 I believe for the front clip. It was basically the whole front end minus the headlights. Even got the tpi intake box

I can get a side pic for you later today. The front nose gfx lined up with most of them but you have to drill a couple new holes if you want to put in all the screws.

Hey thanks man! That sure beats the price new ones go for. As for color of emblems I would go with red. I fought with the idea on my 95 Z (black) for the longest time. I eventually went with red and I am glad that I did. Silver looks good as well but I really like the red.

This pic is blurry but you get the idea.

From one 84 Z28 owner to another you have one nice looking car there. I however differ from the opinion about the grid rear lights I say go for black outs it will clean the look up so much more, see my sig.

Black is #1, no doubt about it. Charcoal comes in at a close second. I'm obviously biased (and my first thirdgen was charcoal!)... nice rims, too; keep em!

Went from faded black to nice and shiny black! It's a nightmare to keep clean though!

In retrospect, I was going to paint the car sunset orange met. or pepper grey metallic (like the gone in 60 Eleanor). But, I saved a bunch of $$$ by not doing a color change.

Here she is all shiny!

It is hard to keep it clean. I found out the cat next door walked over my car when I saw the little paw marks over my hood. It was only dust no scratches but i could still tell.

This is my friends 86 Z28 with a 355TPI Dart Headed motor and the 91-92 GFX package.

He bought it new in 86. Was a 305TPI.

I like the rims, they are very late 80's vintage

I agree...Black is the way to go on thridgens. This is my 4th one, and 3 of them have been black.

As far as the tail lights go, my only non-black maro was a red 85 Z28 and it had the grid style tail lights on it.

Grid tail lights were an option for the Irocs 86+ I think, and were stock on all of the Camaro models as of 89

At least your front end was fixable though .. i wish i was able to fix this but it went so much as pushing the firewall back.
dam i miss that car
