Paid $700 for this 92RS with a broken LO3 motor (parts were in hatch, block was missing), even came with good ZR rubber & seller even flat bedded to my garage. Didn't use the 700R4. Went with setup in sig for an easy build that I trust.
Unbelieveable, but I had to use a cowl hood, the motor wouldn't clear the stock one. I kinda like it though. Looks mean, but I miss the black stripes.
Remnants of the 25th Anniv stripes...
Inside had thin carpet, which is out, to fix rust holes. Seats were trashed, went with Pep Boys 3A Racing ones, very nice lumbar support for my bad back, it was a no brainer. I liked the Z28 badge better than the 25th Anniv. Need to add the horn. The dash tach was wasted, so it's now 5" because speedo isn't hooked, it's used as a rough speedo, plus it glows blue at night and the shift light (and they come up fast) is bright red, kinda importish tho, I know.
The beast. Yahoo, has no trouble spinning those sticky ZR directional tires. I've since redone the fuel lines much better and installed a better quality fuel pressure gauge (after the motor was pumped full to the brim of 93 octane and wouldn't crank
) Need better wire looms.
Another view of the motor.
I hate changing a car's color (door jams, etc), but I was thinking of painting the car black, what do you think? Open to suggestions. I figure dark colors would make the 3" cowl look smaller (less pull overs, etc). Also not sure on tire size. Did these cars use 245/50/16?? The fronts are 205/55 and the backs are 225/55 now, I don't like it, too darn low, does corner well tho.

that is one clean car. That engine is freagin beautiful, what heads are you runnin? Don't see too many people punching it all the way out to a 360. Of course all black would top it all off, only problem is it seems to be what everyone is doing, including me

OMG! YOU LUCKY DOG! *hopes your not a woman*umm lol so Nice car! Wish I had an engine like that. What next? YES! Paint it black and after waiting a month or so after the paint job them start washing and waxing to keep that black clean, always, everyday and show up some ricers, next? Live your life within the heaven inside of your car. Maybe a clean sounding stereo system.Quote:

Heads are stock 350's for now, but they were dirt cheap & machined perfectly with 3 angle valve. I thought they'd choke the motor, but it pulls really hard. I figure Vortecs would wake it up even more, but my current 9:1 is pretty pump friendly.Originally posted by 123jon321

As for the black, I figured it would top it off too, and you're right tho, seems everyone's doing it.

Well it hasn't lost to any car yet performance wise, I feel I got some bang for my buck, gotta love chevys. I've got one of the latest Sony 200W flip-down head units and two 8" subs in the back (kinda required to hear the tunes over the motor). It is a fun car for sure, feels more like a large "go-kart" than anything else.

That car looks just plain beastly. I love what you have done with it. Keep up the good work, and let us know how it runs at the track.

I bought one of the sony flip down face cd players about 3 years ago and I hate to tell you but they are crap. After about a year it started acting wierd, apparently the pins that connect the face to the unit go bad. When I turn it down every time it either won't do anything or it turns up ALL the way up and the opposite happens when I turn it up. I have to fight with it just to change the volume, very annoying. I hope they've fixed this lately so you don't have the same problem. Thought I'd forewarn ya. I know I won't ever buy a flip down face again, good luck.
Your car looks really sweet! The only thing I would do is get a new coolant resevoir and windsheild washer tank.

My wife's Sony flip-down works fine after 3yrs now. But we mostly listen to FM anyway so that might explain it. No biggie anyway, I got the unit new for 50% off because I used to work at a large retail store down here. Thanks for the heads up.Originally posted by 123jon321

You mean leave the hood black and the car red? One of my neighbors actually said the same thing.Originally posted by TunedPort 335

The police is pretty aggressive were I live, nobody drives custom cars around here, I didn't want to have to use the cowl. Now I'm trying to make it "disappear", I figured black would do that best. It's hard enough to keep the motor under 2500 rev's, after that the exhaust really "rips".
What about some type of charcoal (maybe metallic)? I like black better, but maybe it's more "neutral" to the cops?

i would vote for leaving the hood black also, looks cool and not out of place, kinda like older muscle cars that had a 2 tone theme, where the hood was usually like a black color
nice car btw

Paint it ARREST ME RED!! Black is to hard to take care of. Red imo looks better and is easier to keep clean. Nice hood by the way.Originally posted by 1991tealRSt-topGuy

wow, that's look like a really nice Camaro. I would paint the hood....to me...it just looks unfinished with the hood being black. Also....who put the "IROC Z" dash badge on there? I'd get rid of that too....

Thanks for the feedback guys. I put the Z28 badge in there only since it's all the boneyard had (the 25th Anniv one was badly yellowed and kinda lame). I have 3 good Z28 badges for the whole car, after I figure a color out, I figured some cops might think the "sound/look" is some Z28 option or something.Originally posted by 84customZ28

I agree with pretty much all of you. The black hood, seats, back stripes, & front plate almost match, but if I was a cop, I'd say someone threw a hood on it and might street race it so lets nab him for something. On the flip side, I have a sheriff's license plate on back; combined with the black stripes it seems some other drivers think this thing is a cop car the way ricers and SUVs slow down bigtime around it.
14 years ago when I was 18 I drove a 12 sec (on giggle juice) '81 Z28 painted "Holley Red". It almost glowed orange in the sun, it looked great, but my girlfriend (now wife) and I were constantly "pulled over for nothing".
I had a black 84 T/A with factory decals and everything, looked awesome, and it was hard to keep clean, I still did it though.
I built this car so it'd be reliable. Making it fun to drive didn't cost much more than replacing the 170HP LO3 motor so I figured what the heck (I missed my 81 Z28). Everything I did was for functionality (well the hood/seats/tach), and ironically the end result looks/sounds pretty beastly.
Nobody votes for the charcoal grey type color (metallic or not)? It's on my wifes 89 Bird and it looks pretty neutral, though uneventful. Then again, her car doesn't have the 3" cowl, 92GFX, 16" aluminums, and monster exhaust.

Paint the car with the 25th Anniversary theme
Lower It
My .02, the engine looks sweet, but as mentioned earlier, the black hood makes it look unfinished....

Hey my car is a charcoal grey and I love it!!! It is such an awesome color in my opinion. Black will show up every single little imperfection (not that you have any) in the body and paint, so there's one thing about it.
Anyways, I may be a little biased as that's the color of my car, but I remember when my dad's friend first got a charcoal Silverado, and I thought it (the color) looked amazing, and I've liked it ever since.
I'm going to repaint my car pretty soon, and I'm going to still go with the charcoal, but I may try and make it just a tiny bit darker, and a little more metallic, like you said.
And please don't tell me you got that for 700$, in that good of shape, with those wheels, or I'll be very jealous lol.

Yep $700 obo. I didn't haggle when I saw it with those wheels/new tires/GFX because I knew others were calling for it (even in other states), I just happened to get there first. Prev owner was paying for storing the car without a motor. And I wanted a car with 0 miles, lucky me this one had the motor already pulled, I just pulled the tranny. All the LO3 parts were in the back, so I used the serp setup. Even the old A/C compressor blows ice cold. I had to buy a new $35 power steering pump and a $50 steering column from a boneyard. Finally a fan of charcoal grey! I too think it looks nice dark and metallic. Seems every thirdgen I see is white/blue/red/black. Wish someone had a pic of that color (my wife's isn't too dark or metallic, but I'll try to get a pic).
Here's my wife's car color next to mine. Hers is more grey than charcoal and the light was fading. But I would think it would "neutralize" my car, while I could safely paint hers black. And if it's a deep charcoal metallic, it wouldn't be so plain either.
