That stinks man. At the moment you may not think this, but atleast the person is still alive. I may get flamed for that but it is true when you think about it.

But since he is still alive, GET THE MONEY, and buy your dream thirdgen!

On a side note, that is a nice looking scenery. Where was that pic taken?

Looks like a cool place to ride the ATV. Maybe I could hook up to the car and pull it out! That creek cant be that deep!

That's really, really strange. I don't even know what to say; your friend needs help. Hopefully you'll be able to get the rightful amount of cash for your car. Be sure to get some pictures of the pull - I think we're all curious to see the aftermath of this catastrophe

I agree, it coulda been way worse if he actually went through with it. I don't know the whole situation as to why he is an "ex-friend", but I'm assuming you're saying that because he drove your car off a cliff into a lake. If thats the reason, I think you should be a little more sympathetic to his messed up situation. He obviously has some problems that need to be taken care of. Sure, you may have lost your car. But your friend is still alive and with some treatment he'll be alright. That would be more important to me.

Just my opinion though

Press charges. You'll get more money for the car if you sue and bring all the receipts for parts and work on the car. That's what I would do anyway.

Honestly man, my bro killed himself about 7 years ago, there is nothing funny about it. He needs help. Nothing more then help.

As far as the car, see what his parents are willing to fork over, but remember some citys have limits on how long you can wait before filling charges.

Were he police involved in this at all or?

so no one called the police to notify them?

man get on that phone.. i can tell you since you already took pics of the oil and gas goining into that creek or river, the clean up cost for the polution will be way more than the cost of your car. and 5k is way to high for that car. I would bet it will cost you 500 to get it out of the water, which by the way should of been your first move.

and guess what since its your car its your bill!

time to cover your butt and get that report filed.

i hope your freind get help.

file the report. then press charges.

yesterday.

youll get your money regardless..and what the other dood said about it being your car, your fault? without a formal report of your car being stolen, guess who theyre coming for when someone else brings it up?

if you guessed "you". you're right.

Yeah the whole wantign to kill himself thing didn't sit right with me. That cliff ain't even high enough to kill yourself off. He was just being a dick. Car was in pretty bad shape to start with even if you had some new parts if you can get $3k out of it I would say your ahead of the game. You better get a report filed they will fine you for all kinds of things.

opps frogot the rest of the message:

I would report it stolen, then maybe an hour later? maybe you happend to stroll down the the pond and find the car.

that way you reported it stolen before you find the car......

not sure if that is leagal or not but should work.

maybe your "friend" needs to meet the hard side of a brick to his head......

not to condone such acts of violance or not.......

Dont touch it untill the cops see it. Take a cop out there after you fill out the report. The police should be able to call a wrecker to pull it out and that cost and event will be documented in the police report. Video tape the whole event with the cops there if possible (for court case).

Good luck guy, I hope you whoop his *** once you got the money in your hand!

DON'T LET THEM PULL IT OUT. CALL THE COPS IMMEDIATLEY!

To say the least I know what you are going through, to make a long story short something very similar happened to me, except mine wasn't driven off a cliff.

Press charges! You will get the full value asking price for your car, plus your friend will get some jail time, and if you want to take it a little bit further you can actually sue for mental damages, oh yes it can be done.

Let the police deal with him and the car right now. Come up with recepits for what you have done to the car and show them to the police, the insurance will give you the blue book value of the car plus all the parts you had into it.

well the only problem is the car has no insurance.. i bought the car to fix up and sell it to make a little profit.. so i never got it tagged and inspected and no insurance.. the interior came out of a 84 z-28 and the rest of the body parts came off a 82 z28.. i bought the 82 and 84 for parts so i have no receipts for most of it.. i do however have receipts for the engine and tranny rebuild and lots of parts to the engine.. but nothing for the new interor, doors, bumpers, fenders, etc, etc.

If I was fixing up a car like that as a project and somebody ran it into the drink I would call the police first thing. They would take it VERY seriously and would arrest the guy which would be very satisfying. it's a lot bigger deal than you think, him stealing your car and especially polluting a lake on public property.

I think its a really bad Idea not to call the police. I think your setting yourself up to get nothing, and to get into trouble as well.

i bet they are holding out, trying to make it too late for you to take any action against them. i know calling the police in that situation wasn't the most savory thing to you at the time, but i really think you are going to be screwed big time if you don't act fast, and it might be too late anyways.

either s*** or get off the pot, press charges or pretend you didnt own the car (since you say you never registered it, etc). but then that could put the blame on the person you bought it from, and then they say they sold it to you, etc.

the only recourse you have left is to press charges/sue. they are going to screw you. it is unfortunate that most everyone in this world is out for themselves, and dont have a care for anyone else, but its a sad fact of life and can't be taken lightly.

my girlfriend rearended someone, left no visable damage, gave insurance info anyways, then was called 2 months later, the person's car now had thousands of dollars worth of damage to it, looked like it was rearended by a bulldozer. probably hit by an uninsured motorist, but they still had her info, so instead of them being SoL since the other guy had no insurance, my girlfriend was dropped from her insurance company when they filed that massive claim.

people are s***, like it or not.

CALL THE POLICE!!! That car is polluting the lake or river and if the epa gets a hold of you, you will be screwed because for all they know you drove it in the water and will fine you since it is your car. You need to be covering your rear not your friends, the longer you wait the lesser the chance of you getting any money. Somebody will find it there and the cops will come after you in time. If you can see the oil and gas on the water than so can anybody else who just happens to look at the river or lake and they will call it in trust me I would. Then you will be in trouble. Your friend needs help if he was that close. My opinion.

we called our lawyer today and he said let them deal with it.. they drove it off the cliff and they will get charged for the polluting and the damage to the fences.. evidently the cops already know about it and that he stole it. they are getting on my *** to press charges but im waiting till i get the money to press any charges.. because i really dont feel like taking this to court and it dragging out for 2-3 years..

three words:

statute of limitations.

If they can put you off long enough, well...yeah. You're screwed.
Cuz then they can just go "Oh well we don't feel like giving you any money. Peace."

and wander right off.

And since you decided to wait til you got your money before pressing any charges...guess what? Ya just got shafted b/c you waited too long.

(ok ok, so it was more than three words in the end )
