It does look clean.......and the orange/red combonation isn't one that you see everyday......

Although a little wire hiding wouldn't kill anyone, looks very cluttered in that bay......

no amount of wire hiding can fix this LT1 intake mess

I am just about to get an LT1 intake from John Millican. What do you mean about the "LT1 intake mess"? Is there something I should know before I do this? Couldn't you get rid of all of the A.I.R. lines and air pump. Because if you have an LT1 you aren't running an EGR. So I'd think you wouldn't need A.I.R., either. Are you happy with the LT1 or would you do it differently if you could go back and do it over. Any input would be appreciated.

I have done a LT1 intake swap and I can agree the wiring is a mess Thats why I don't like to show my engine off. Im sure somebody here that is willing to spend a little time on theres can get it to look good.

Cluttered, but nice. Not all fast motors have to look like they're all alone in the bay.

I really should get some new bottles under the hood, they really do make a big difference.

What did you use to clean everything up?

new bottles? dude they are new.

Anyway, I used simple green like mad. Twice. Then I hosed it all down and finished it off with some CD2 engine detailer.

If you'll look back... you'll notice that I said... I should get some new bottles.

I want to hose my L03 down, but I am afraid of hurting something.

I just have one question, why have a ram air hood without the proper air intake? I just don't get it.

The engine bay on my 85 looked like that, with all that AIR stuff and wires, night and day difference when i took it out. Even with the a/c in, it looked only half as cluttered. The intake didn't add any to the clutter, maybe it even lessened it since i updated some stuff when i took the TPI off (egr, etc.).
Oh, and why a ram air hood without the airbox? Well, why have a factory a T/A hood with four non-functional extractor vents? (what i currently have)

Because that's how he bought it ?

I'll never b---h about my engine bay looking cluttered again Certainly does look clean though.
Hiding wires isn't all that hard (just very time consuming) unless the car is a daily driver which makes it a royal...
It would definatly make a night/day difference under the hood and bring the bay up to par with the looks of the exterior.
It's vastly (overall) improved since you aquired it though...

You can do it man -- it just takes about 900 hours. You can hide all of that wiring except for the ugly coolant lines and tstat housing.
This is a few days before she became mine...

After some time under the hood, buttoning it all back up today...

Being the one that he bought it from I can explain why its not true ram air. It once was as close to you can get on a thirdgen (with out custom fabrication) but the airbox was a complete peice of trash and was not "true ram air" it was not sealed at all, it was simply an open element air filter behind the nostrils, which created no ram effect, and had a huge expensive filter to replace. Once in the airbox it had a very turbulant ride to the TB, only to be choked 1/2 way there by the MAF sensor.

Sooooo..... I ordered 3" Custom bent piping from Mufflex, got the cone filter, and made my own cold air intake, atleast that has smooth, non turbulant bends and the only restriction is the MAF sensor.

so in Short, because no one makes one worth buying.

I would have enjoyed modding a 4th gen ram air box, but it would take to much fabrication with the MAF sensor.

Have thet improved the design since then?? I have been considering getting the entire package for my GTA, or would I just be wasting my time? I too have a MAF car, and I beleive I read a post earlier where somone converted to SD when they got the ram air kit. Would you have to do that to make it worth while?

Looks VERY clean but I will give you some constructive criticism here-

First I would relocate the coil, IMO... it doesn't look right hanging off the firewall right there. Maybe make a bracket so it looks alot cleaner. Then just clean up some of the wiring, as much of a PITA as it may be

And then just buy some aluminum polish, I personally prefer Eagle One, and then I would polish up that strut tower brace and those fuel rails. It looks like they were previously polished at one point?

All in all though, nice swap and veryy clean.

hehe, seeing that pic makes me want to go sorting thru all the wires and making them look neater..

i can see they're all set in a very useful, direct, and easy to work on way, but man it just messes with my head...

some more constructive criticism here..

if you made all those red spark plug wires lined up neatly, the back of the motor would look alot cleaner and less cluttered
in the first pic its like a focal point.. my eye keeps getting drawn to thoes red wires

if you take black Zip ties, you can make a very nice looking wire loom... loosely loop one zip tie around all the wires on that side of the distrib cab (going to that bank)

then slide one wire to the side, and put a zip tie around the zip tie loop next to the wire. then slide the next wire over to the zip tie "spacer" (2nd zip tie) and then put another zip tie next to it.. ect..
if you keep the "blocks" of the zip tie end facing down, it looks trick, and its cheap.
moving the bright read wires to look neat, and moving the coil would help alot IMO...

oh, and id ditch the yellow wire tied to the CAI.. lol..

but overall... looks GREAT. dont take my criticism like im bashing your car.. it looks nice!

I agree. But it still looks great!

Hows it doing performance wise? I could have swore I read that it ran a 15.x in the 1/4???

I made the wires long enough to when it came time, I could put them with some wire loom made for centerbolt heads. However the price has been keeping me from getting it.

I polished up the strut tower brace and fuel rails with Eagle 1 aluminum polish before I took that pic, didn't help much. I think it needs some wetsanding.

Yes, the car is running MUCH better now. It ran that 15.4 in the quarter right when I first got the car with vacuum leaks, bad IAC, 8 degree retarded timing, and a host of other issues. I have MOST of the bugs worked out now. I am thinking the car is in the 14.0 ~ 14.2 range considering what i've raced recently. It still needs some work though. I am almost positive the injectors are leaking. The 48mm stock throttle body is a hinderance on the LT1 intake, along with the MAF which is choking the engine to death. I think the engine could still use a few more degrees of timing.

All in all though, its 200% better than when I first got it. Runs way smoother, starts easy, has plenty of power.

Oh yeah, and the little yellow zip tie on the intake, its there to hold the intake away from the compressor so the MAF doesn't hit the little blade on it. Not much else I can do. It won't be a problem when I switch to Speed Density.

Hmm for the strut tower brace and fuel rails, you'll probably hafta sand them and use buffing compounds. Thats how I get my best results.

I think that would make it look 100% better

why is everything so shiney?

did ya spray bomb the engine with clear?

i would agree with the coil move and i would get a cap that was black or red so it blends in with the rest on the bay. the beige color makes it stick out with the red wires.

can't tell from the pics but are the wires in wire (looms?)? ya know the corigated plastic stuff. whats it called....

other than that looks great i would love to do that swap someday.

oh yeah, and unscrew the MAP sensor from the top of the intake since you're running mass air.

The plans were to run Speed Density, so the map sensor is staying
