Rear End before and after!

Started the "back axle project" at the end of August this year. Darn, that seems a long time ago!!
Here's the beast before

Here is the finished product (well very nearly!)- Stripped, sandblasted for 1 hour 5 minutes non stop! Etch primed, white primer, red smoothrite sprayed on and polished. Then, complete with stainless polished hard lines, stainless braided flexy (courtesy of uk89camaro), rebuilt and painted slaves, chrome diff cover secured with 10 polished stainless cap (allen) headed bolts, chromed anti roll bar, chrome U bolts, chromed anti roll bar spacer bracket, polished stainless brake pin spacer plates, new oil seals, LSD additive (£8 for a small tube!!) and new oil, brake backplate to casing threads drilled out and polished cap headed bolts and nylocs used instead. Phew. And that is only the back axle. No wonder this rebuild has taken 4 years so far! Almost there though.

Sport Coupes Rule!

Hi mw66nova.
Thanks for the reply. No upgrades. I have upgraded things for years. Been there, done that. I fancied a change. Gotta go where your desire takes you! And I have been dying to do this!

Hi jenson73110 and Brock's91RS.
Thanks for the comment. Those flames too absolutely ages! I know they are not top quality, but they are good enough for me!

FLYNLOW92rs.
Thanks again. I know you are following the air suspension install. I can't believe where the time goes to. I go back to work on Monday, and my plan is to have all springs installed and photographed before then. I'll send you a PM.

Kandied91z and FLYNLOW92rs.
Got a ways to go to match you two!

Hot Rod GTA
Posted this on your site! Would be superb to come to germany and cruise with you guys. 2 very young kids and a Wife that works when I am on holiday will put a stop to that! One day though. Take a raincheck.

Ezey Go.
Thanks for the encouragement.

MdFormula350.
Yeah, know what you mean. I probably won't do it again though!! For some reason I needed to do it! Just wait till you see the engine and box!

More photos to follow. Now all I need (after the install-'cos I want to drive it again!) is tubular trailing arms, tubular panhard rod and torque arm, so I can get them all chrome plated. Next winter will be a lot of fun keeping it all clean.

Andy.

you know,

it would really suck if you fragged that rear end right after you put it in.

Hiya. Nice one! Thanks. Would p*ss me off I can tell you!
Hmmm. Let's see. Bought car in 1994 with 62 000 miles on it. Now reads 63 010. Driven to shows (local ones!) carefully. No wheel spins, no speeding tickets. Got a 91 RS for that!!! Could forget to put the lube in it though! Probably not much chance for it to even turn, never mind frag! Makes me wonder why I have it sometimes. But I don't half enjoy working on it though.

Andy.
