Exactly. 16" IROC-Z spec wheels 85-90 ONLY came in either silver or gold. NO other colors were offered from GM.

2 winters ago i polished and wetsanded the shinny part of the wheels so now the paint just doenst hold its own anymore. Yah yesterday i bought my supplies....I got a can of black paint and a can of clear coat some good non bleeding tape and some wider stuff too. I dont think ill really need primer unless i was striping them down to bare metal...all ill do is sand the old surface well. I mean if i like the grey i can always go back sometime but I wish some guy could hit me so i could get a hole new paint job then id switch to black w/gold rims and stripes. But i love my color now its got crazy pearl in it so. I think the grey is nice i just wanna change i guess.
Dante you say your paint is rough like,,wet sand it with say 800-1000...making sure you dont go thru the paint then give it a few coats of clear...making sure its eather for emamel or non-enamel surfaces (whatever you need to use)
It will make them shine and look flawless and make them easyer to clean. I will never leave just bare paint on wheels anymore it dont last.

UPDATE!!!!!!
i am in the process of painting them right now.
A word to the wise for anyone else trying wheels if you or anyone ever used teflon/silicon protectant on your tires your garanteed that thinner or acetone will not get it off your wheels and your paint will fisheye like mine did at 1st...i got some stuff of my buddy that removes it but i dont know the name and its supposetly expecive and he got it from a autobody shop.
The black wheels are coming along good i just fifnshed putting the clear on. ill have pics tomorow after the tape comes off.
speaking of tape it takes a while to tape em off, alot longer then i thought.

My 89 IROC came with the 16" IROC wheels with the gold inserts. I would get you a pic but the clear coat is comming off and they look crummy. My other set of 16" IROC wheels have the silver insets and they look much better. Bought them from the forum member HybridZ for $400 w/o tires. I plan to rework these gold inset wheels, but not sure if I want to paint them. Has anyone ever seen a fully polished IROC wheel? I might give it a try.

I'm finally painting mine also, ones drying right now as a matter of fact. Taping them off does take a while, especially around the lug nut holes, my fingers and a razor blade barely fit, lol. I'll get some pics.
Also, I think the Cali. IROCS got black inserts, right?

http://members.cardomain.com/tunedport335
(Hes on here everynow and then not sure if thats his exact id name too but its close to that anyhow). I was thinking of polishing all mine too but it would of took alot of time if i didnt have the right tools as under the painted surface is alot rougher and would take long to polish.

Jcurrie, those are looking pretty good. But you should have taken the wheel weights off when you polished. Then just had them rebalanced, with the weights put back on the inside, it makes them look a little cleaner.

go to any parts store or wallmart ect. and buy black magic or wet n black or something that you spray on your tires to make them look brand new. it usualy lasts for a week unless you drive in a lot of dust or rain. Some of them can turn your wheels brown if they get really dirty but there is at least one brand that won't do that.
