So far, i have been a camaro owner but im about to purchase an 87 Trans AM. What are the main differences between the GTAs and the Trans Ams, besides the emblems and the rims? thanksd

Basically the GTA was a better optioned car versus the T/A. Outside the GTA did not have the fender vents, it did not have a two tone paint scheme, and the wing also matched the body color. It came standard with GTA marking's on the nose, and fenders. It also had "chickens" on the sail panels. These marking's were badges, not stickers, or painted on. Inside the GTA came standard with unique seats. I beleive they were a Recaro look alike, made by GM. But don't quote me on that. However they were very different from standard T/A seats. It also usually came with many more options standard versus the T/A. Things like like A/C, pw, pm, pdl, ps, p attena, leather steering wheel w/raido controls ('88-'90, '87's had a T/A wheel, and all '91 and '92's had airbag's). Instrumentation cluster was a little different as well. In some GTA's you can find the digital dash, whereas in most it came with the regular analogue cluster with tach, speedo, oil, voltage, fuel. On the map pocket you can find a GTA marking stiched in, as well underneath the pocket on the dash you will find a performance suspension option. As well, all GTA's came standard with the WS6 performance suspension and a Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end. All GTA's came standard with gold cross-lace 16' rims.
I hope this brief overveiw helps. Good luck.

Your 86 could very well have all those options. Like I said, those options were standard on GTA's, whereas they where special order on regular T/A's.

87 GTAs did not have just the Trans Am wheel. They came leather wrapped with a special horn button specific to GTA.
also - go look at resale values. There's your difference. Being that GTA was the top dog Trans Am, it's also the most desirable.
