To Stripe or not to Stripe...

About 8 months ago I had my 1987 IROC Camaro repainted stock color--GM Bright Red for a cool $800. I decided to go with the IROC-Z door stickers...but was content to leave the Silver/Black stripes off. Well up until I saw to my amazement a similiar restored/repainted? Red 87 IROC-Z running down the freeway the other day with the stripes on. I thought they really looked sporty and the silver really stands out...almost glowing in the dark via the headlights at night...real cool stuff. Now I am planning to put the stickers back on.

Need opinions on whether route to go with this. My dad hates the stickers (he owns the 92 Z-28 Convert with no stickers/markings) ... I know..it's up to me.

Opinions appreciated.

I would say leave them off. I prefer the clean look. If i get my car repainted, none of the stickers are going back...in the beginning at least. By the way, nice car, color and year!

I appreciate the feedback.

PRO Sticker:

1.) I was "enjoying" the clean look already...until I saw the freshly painted RED IROC cruizing down the freeway---the car looked restored. I thought the reflection of the silver stripe combo was interesting affect at night on fresh paint... I am thinking that the Silver/black stickers look better on a new paint job...than they do on cars with old paint jobs...

2.) Most 3rd Gens around my area (CORONA CA) range from beater to average condition... Most of these cars are RS Camaros...thus SANS stickers. I was thinking that the IROC without the Stickers and Door Sticker would look too much like a RS. I kinda feel like a IROC isn't an IROC without the "gaudy" stickers. This "gaudiness" is what makes the 80s IROC car... Some car critics in the day called the IROC a "gaudy" piece of candy.

3.) I went through the same "struggle" with my 89 TTA. To install the "Indy 500" stickers or not. I finally decided to install the stickers since a TTA would not be a complete pace car without the stickers... Most people at car shows already have trouble determining the significance of this car...without the stickers...they would really have no clue.

4.) If I owned one of those early 80s "Formula 350" Firebirds...I would definately reinstall the door stickers if I was repainting the car...

CON Sticker:

1.) Cleaner look---$$$ cheaper...don't have to spend more cash
2.) Avoids the 80s Gaudy (Candy wrapper) look.

Still weavering.

Leave em off, I like the stickers but after seeing how clean your car is I would say no. I would say the grass is just looking greener to you!

I say leave 'em off. Makes there less of a distinction between the GFX and the body.

heh, high school huh? I remember that. My first car was a '94 Trans AM. I was the only one who had s sports car, never mind the fastest car. ....Then you get outta high school, and it's like...wow, who gives a f@#$?

..Then all of a sudden you get to college, and it's like..."Damn rich kids..."

Ok, I've babbled way off topic.

I'd definetly put them back on, they have a cool, sporty, and distinctive look. They're nice and top Camaros have had some type of stripe more years than not.

I'd recommend to leave them off... You paid $800 dollars for a paint job. How did it turn out? Who painted it?

$800 at Choice Paint in Corona off Main street. The paint job isn't that bad and really makes the car look new. There is little overspray here and there...but for the whole the job wasn't that bad. They repaired 2 door dings and removed all the trim and ground affects. The same job in Orange County $$$ would have run me 1200 or more. I believe the GM Bright Red paint is not that expensive and pretty common.

Personally since the car is a daily driver...and gets driven on infamous 91 fwy...I don't see any point in dishing out 2 grand up for a custom paint job...just to have gravel trucks and crazy drivers ruin my "perfect" job. The car has over 221,000 miles and runs perfectly on original drive train. Amazingly...the car does not burn or leak a drop of oil and the plugs are always showing normal carbon buildup---a testimate to Castrol GTX 10w-30 motor oil!!! The 8 injectors are stock and hardly miss a pulse...a testimate to Chevron Supreme...

Howdy...fellow CORONA native.
