Mounting MSD??
Hey guys I just got my MSD 6AL and I am going to be putting it on tomorrow but I don't know where I can mount it so it looks good. If you coudl give me some suggestions or pistures that would be great. Thanks agian guys..
If your looking for the "concealed" look, let me suggest this as clear as possible. Underneath the plastic part where the hood latch is located(must remove entire piece,5 screws on top, 4 screws on bottom)you can mount the box right next to the driver's side headlight, then cover. IF not then the firewall seems to be a popular location.Wish I had pics to futher explain this, but you may get the point.DUECE
I just realized you own a formula not sure if this will actually
work as it would on camaro's, like I said just a suggestion.

Both are nice clean locations.. I was looking on search and I got results to come up this time some how lol and I saw that someone with an A/C delete box put there msd rigth above it on the wall and it looks really good and i just so happen to have a box so I am gonna paint it up and put it on tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas though guys, But anyways on to better news, I raced my freinds 4th gen camaro tonight withc runs probably in the 13.8 range and i can't hook till a little into third no matter wut i do and as soon as i did hook i just jump rigth past him like he wasn;t moving. I'm so pumped lol thanks again guys

By pills I assume you mean the rev limiter do-dads. (whatever they are called) And no...it is actually quite simple. Just pull the intake box off and take out the right air filter and reach underneath...perfectly simple to get to and there is plenty of room to get your hand in there. Plus it doesn't take up any room in the engine compartment and the wires are all routed out of the way. The latch works perfectly with no adjustments and it was simple to install. Basically it was the easiest and best place I could think of.

mounting msd??
hi guys i bought an msd 6al and i am mounting it ont he drivers side of the brake booster (like Zepher did) i have moved my relays already and now i am trying to figure out what to use to screw it inot the firewall or how anyway. it came with four rubber stubs with threaded rod sticking out of them (dont know any other way to describe it) and the threads dont match the holes to any bolt hole in he car from what i can see escpecially since there are no holes where i want to mount this thing. so what did you guys use and or do? be specific please. for example did you drill holes then use a tap that matched the treads of the mountign hardware that came with it? did you drill new holes and use other screws??? please let me know so i can mount this thing..

No problems as of yet...apparently they are not sealed, but the thing is upright and any water that might get in should drain. Plus it is in front of the radiator so there should be plenty of incoming air to cool it.

actually there not sealed. I always figured they were but I loked in the manual and it said they are not and should never be sealed or mounted upside down. There reasoning behind this is so that if moisture builds up it will just drip out of the backing plate and now get traped in there.

Put it inside the car underneath the dash on the passenger side or something. Underneath the engine bay you always risk getting water and excessive heat on it.

Thanks for the compliments 25TH & SLP. Yes, I have rewired the entire car under the hood. All the primary ECM wires run through the trans tunnel and up under the center of the plenum (I went as far as turning the injectors/plugs to the inside as well.. I hate wires!). The relays that were where the MSD is, now are run down the pass side frame rail and are accessible through the opening at the front (have to move the airbox, which isn't done either, though). The evap canister is mounted underneath the same spot and I moved my headlight module inside the car. You can still see some wires comming from the harness plugs but, you have to look pretty hard to find where they go.

excellent, i went about mine a different way. i basically merged both harnesses behind the dash. i mounted my MAF relays, Fuel pump relay and ESC module on the pass side firewall behind the dash, the computer is mountd in the center of the firewall. all the wires run through the factory hole in the firewall for the hvac harness (i did away with all my hvac) i take it u had to shorten/extend parts of the harness then. if so did u ever run into any problems with the length of the injector wires. it was brought to my attention that they have to be equal length to work right. now mine arent not exactly even, but i had the car running today and i didnt notice anything differnt about how it ran that would pertain to the injectors. i really dont think the length matters to point, obv a few inches difference is ok, but a few feet difference might be another story. oh well, feel free to elaborate on that if u know heard anything about it. i have lots of pics if u are interested. today i had the biggest relief of my life when i heard the car run, made me feel proud i went through such a large project and came out succesful.
also, ive even gone as far as to weld up all the unused holes that were left over in the engine bay, when im done it will be real smooth. ive also found a great place for the MSD box, behind the non AC heater box, out of site out of mind, plus id rather not lead anyone on as to what my car has done to it. hehehe, neat things like this have always fascinated me.

And this is where I'm mounting my 6A and in case your wondering I didn't make the mounting bracket it's made by summit and it'll hold just about any ignition box made.
this is where the vacum canister thing was. I like it cause it's accesible yet easy to hide the wires.

Mine has been mounted on that firewall for over 13yrs, its been in the engine compartment for 18yrs, been driven in hard down pours (60+ mph) with no hood, the engine gets washed everytime the car does (try not to spray it directly) and I have never had a problem with it

Just finished installing mine tonight and mounted it where the charcoal canister was. Smoothest going upgrade I've done in a while. Got the 6AL box, Pro-Billet distributor and the blaster 2 coil. Fired right up on the first try and that never happens to me

I just thought I would post a pic of my new spot for the MSD. I removed the heater box because I only drive the car in the warmer weather months. So I just cut some squares out of 1/16" sheet metal to cover the holes in the firewall. Besides the squares not being the same color as the car, I think it came out pretty good.
