Kandied is that the kit that costs like $475 from jegs? was it a pain to do the power steering pully or anything? im lookin to get the same kit soon.
Timz2882 i purchased it direct through march but i believe it's the same kit.
grngryoutmyway that's a pretty damn good eye you got there....while yes it's a mustang it is a very respectible mustang so i let it be. thanks for the kind words....i like the kit alot and it looks as good as it works but i don't know if i would purchase it again because it's very pricey. i think polishing the stock setup would have been a better alternative but you live and learn.

That's interesting; I've not seen many kits that use a serpentine style belt for the Alt, Wp, Crank, AND one just for the PS pump. Very cool, no problems with that setup I'm sure

I've got the very same setup but i have one question, how did you get the turnbuckle to work with the alternator? Is it a different one? I had to use my stock crappy looking bracket(atleast it covers the junk to the TPS, and other sensors though!). I guess it could be that you have a different alternator all together. thanks for any help

ah ha! I see now. The stock bracket on mine looks "OK", but if i already have everything else, it just sticks out like a sore thumb! thanks for the input guys. I thought my '86 alternator was the problem, but i believe it has more to do with the sensors and their locations rather than the alternator itself. later

im not sure on part number go to march perf web site they are easy to find on there and my pump is regular flow now with this set up thanks Ron
looks great Kandie. did you get the Ultra finish or just the regular finish on the brackets and pulleys?
i went with this setup for my stroker since i have an electric waterpump:
the whole setup should be here any day now, and im dying to see what it will look like, but yours gives me some idea. its so much cleaner with only crank pulley, PS pulley and alternator pulley though. im glad we dont have emissions up here

stock power steering pulley will work with this but i did have to buy the crank pulley i didnt want to but if you try to run 1 belt there is very little contact on water pump that and they set the ps pump back so u gotta run the 2 belt crank pulley i was going to make spacers to bring ps out to use 1 belt but wasnt comfortable with so little contact on water pump

Not suprisingly, no matter how nice the bracketry/mounts/color matching is (which, you do have a nice setup)... the actual accessories still look like sh-t no matter what. Just my opinion though... doesn't matter.

You are right to a point (the fact that my power steering pump tilts like that too pisses me off a bit!), but once on the car, it looks great. You really have to take a good look to see what is going on. If you don't do that, all you see is polished parts. Not too many people inspect cars like we do(dpends on who you show too i guess), so i don't see it being a problem, everyone needs atleast an alternator and water pump so its all fair game.

87 and older alternator off a z28 will work as well, it has the 6 and 12 oclock clocking that you need. i run this same setup on my car. i love it.

Someone take a look at the brackets from March in the link and tell me if the mid mount alt bracket will work for me and if the matching PS bracket below it will work also. I dont care about all that polished crap. I just want the brackets to mountmy stuf. I know Ill have to get the 2 row crank pulley though.383, Im hoping you can help me here. If those wont work then which ones will?

now, I take it the March PS bracket moves the the PS pump out from the engine hense the need for the new crank pulley. Now with those brackets, is that all I am going to need to relocate my alt and get rid of the huge acc. facory brackets. If so , then $200 isnt that bad for brackets compared to the $500-$600 price of some of there kits.
PS can I still use my alt with this kit? Right now my alt. is on the drivers side

you will need an 87 style water pump, 88+ is reverse rotation. will not work with this kit. it doesnt have the provisions to mount the alternator on the passenger side.
if you want to retain 1 belt. take a factory serpentine bracket and cut the upper points off that the alternator mount too, leaving just the bottom half for the power steering. i have seen this done, and you dont have to hassle with 2 belts. bracket must be a 88-92 v8 bracket with power steering on the drivers side.
LMK if i can help.

I have an edelbrock water pump I bought along with a crate engine about 2 years ago. I guess it wont work then if I decide to go this route. So your saying I need to find a water pump for a 1987 V8 that has a provision on it to mount the turn bucle for the alt right?
I'd rather not cut my brackets in case I need them somewhere down the road. Plus I want a simple looking setup.

yeah i forgot about the water pump that upset me i jus bought an edelbrock alum pump last year for $150 so i had to buy a new standard rotation pump but it is worth it i jus like the clean look of em i saw others cut thier alt bracket off i did consider that but i didnt like how it looked i know the brackets are kinda pricey but i think they are woth it ive pissed more money away on things before that i didnt need im use to it isnt that part of the joy in being into cars lol later

i had one that the alternator stud was broken off. i sold the bracket for 20 bucks. put up a want add on several forums wanting a cracked alternator bracket. there are more out there than you think. the mounting point is so thin, they bust on a regualar basis with a high HP motor under the hood. from what ive messed with anyway.
good luck

stage 20, why would i need a different water pump if I am using the mid mount kit. From the pic, it looks to me like the turn buckle for the al is on the bottom with the mid mount kit

the power steering bracket uses the drivers side water pump bolts to mount.
the alternator uses a bracket that bolts to the accessory holes of the water pump, not the water pump mounting points to the block as the drivers side uses. the 88+ models do not have these extra 2 holes in them, nor is the 88+ model set up to turn standard rotation.
good luck, i think you will love the set up.

im real close to selling my stock brackets to help fund this. the thing is I just dont want to find out the hard way that I need and this new crap. Can I keep my alt? Is there any differnece in cooling going from reverse to standard on my engine? Can I just change out the water pump like that?

you can change your water pump to a 87 version no problem. a new pulley will come in the kit if you buy the complete version.
cooling system wont know the difference.

I just called March Performance and they told me that I cant just use the brackets for th emid mount setup. They said I have to buy the March pulleys for the alt water pump and PS pump. I know I have to get a new crank pulley but why do they say I have to buy there pulleys?
383, you say you used your stock PS pulley right? From looking at yours, are you pretty sure I can re use my pulleys except for the crank pulley? I think March is trying to take my money here.

im sure they recommend their pullies, thats business.
i ran my stock alternator pulley and PS pulley no problem, until i could afford the bling bling.
you will need a crank pulley AND a 6 rib water pump pulley. your stock "smooth" pulley is not gonna cut it.

well ****, if I have to replace my water pump AND pulley then I might as well spend the same money and get an electric pump instead.
thanks for the help guys
thanks for the help guys Hey Kandied91z
When you put the alternator pulley on your alt, were you able to use the lock washer? i have (i believe) the same setup as you but i cant get the pulley on with the nut and lock washer the snout just seems to be too short

most aftermarket type alternators dont work well with aftermarket pulleys. i took mine to a machine shop and they took about 5/16 out of the center of the march pulley. (on a mill) i couldnt even get a nut on it before, now i can use the nut and lock washer.
could have just been me, but looks like you have the same problem. good luck
