Decent Shine?

paint is 2 years old and is not base/clear its urethane enamel i think, or acrylic... the hood looks alrite but teh side is lookin orange-peelish,the last pic is the drivers side that was redone after the accident and i'm pretty sure tey used base/clear on it.

what do you think?

Gotta wetsand that thing with some 2000 grit and then use some compounds on it.

lots of orange peel... dang.

The shine doesn't look too bad though. I have Limco 1-2-3 junk acrylic enamel stuff on my Camaro. Mine my paint job is almost 6 years old, and it doesnt look bad. Upkeep is crazy to keep the paint from dying though... it sucks.

One thing that might help out your car a bit is painting the door locks black or silver. Little things make a big difference

It doesn't really look like orange peel... I'd say it just needs a good polishing job. Sucks that they painted the door lock solenoid though...

If they used the base/clear on top of urethane, you could end up with weird paint issues. Try polishing, you should be alright.

If that doesn't look like orange peel then I don't know what is. Like I said a mild wetsanding with some 2000 grit sandpaper and then using some coumpounds like the 3M ones with a buffer followed by a waxing and that paint would look kick ***.

Orange peel is an actual flaw in the paint.. his paint looks like it dried the way it's supposed to. It just has to be polished.

You kind of just explainded what orange peel is. Most factory paintjobs have orange peel its just a fact...if it hasn't been wetsanded and polished it most likely has some sort of orange peel. Granted some are definitely better than others....take for example a mercedes paintjob as compared to like a hyundia paintjob. Orange peel is just a fact of painting it isn't necessarily a flaw.

I used to work for a decorative painting contractor. Granted it's a different application, but I was taught that orange peel is an actual flaw in the painting technique where the paint is too thin and settles inside imperfections on the surface. On a wall, that would make it look like orange peel because of the texture that a paint roller leaves. The top layer of paint becomes mottled and is no longer one solid color.

On a car, the paint simply doesn't level and has to be polished. As far as I knew, this isn't what orange peel is.

Of course as I said, it's two different fields. I could be wrong. In either case, all that's need is a good polishing job to fix up that paint, 1986CamaroSC.

to fix orange peel though, don't you have to do the wet sanding before the clear coat? cause if you sand on it now you will just take clear off and make it look dull. maybe I am wrong

Orange peel is caused by the clear coat not the paint itself.

To better asnwer that question is that both normal paint and clear coat can have orange peel on it. Yeah wetsanding will make either a bit dull, but that is what the compounds afterwards are for, to buff it back to a glossy finish. Wetsanding if done right shouldn't take off but the least amount of paint or clear from the top, that is why you use something like 2000 grit.
