The 86 hatch with the light mounted outside the glass has a spoiler like that. Couldn't you just remove the light from the 87-90 cars, fill in the holes and have the same thing?

That setup is stock for the 85/86 Trans Am with aero spoiler. The car in the picture is IIRC an 89 that was converted. The 3rd lamp has a couple 10mm screws that hold it onto the spoiler, then a few more that hold it onto the deck. You can duplicate this look by taking off the spoiler, removing the lamp & housing, filling and painting the decklid, and reinstalling the spoiler on it. I did this on my car as I used a GTA hatch and an 86 TA wing when I first painted it. I have switched out the decklid and spoiler, as well as cut off the wraparound mounting clips sience then though. Hope this helps!

Actually I am with you on this one. I like it without the third brake light. I hated it back in the eighties when I started seeing all kinds of crazy third brake lights on the cars. I never liked any of them.

i hate third brake lights with a passion, they look so gay , im glad i have an 85 and dont have one, and the 86 is the worst with the light right in the middle. Yeah that spoiler would be stock if it were on an 85 . but none the less it looks good.

Hey, that's my car!

Yes, it's a fiberglass replacement spoiler. It has the tapped holes in it to support the brake light but I had the bodyshop seal up the holes when I had the car painted. I'm happy with the way it came out..

if i have an 86 spoiler like that can i take the break light off the top of the hatch or are there going to be holes in the glass where bolts should be?

Yep, and the easiest/best way to fill those might be to swap out the glass with that from a different year thirdgen. No worries about leaks that way.
