do i need to shave?
do i need to shave?
what do you think.....yes or no. i really don't mind the look of the handles or emblems as to me it breaks up the side of the car but with the new paintjob i'm considering it. what do you think. should i leave them or not?

I think the car would look even better with shaved handles but if you decide not to shave them I think the Chrome Camaro Handles might look good? But I guess its up to personal preference.

get rid of the body side molding and the door handles and locks, You have a real nice car there. and you show it too, and i think it looks real nice and clean with out the handles there.

i know you are struggling for every little thing to make this car stand out in a show crowd but this car is starting to go in a negative direction. IMO your car used to be absolutly perfect but then you went and continued to change things. Ive never liked the ss hood on your car i think it partly has to do with just the colour but i also dont like it with the 91-92 spoiler. And your car has a very race car oriented look to it and i think shaving the handles takes away from that a bit. Just makes it look too showy and takes away from the cars personality.

whats the plan for the paint job now?
if your just having the car painted the kandy red again, then i would say leave the handles. if you are going with a more aggresive paint job, then i would consider shaving the handles and locks
when is it getting painted jeff?

Looks like you're getting away from the stock look (same thing I am trying to do) so I say shave everything. Handles, locks, and side moldings. Keep the gas door unless you want to open the hatch every time you fill up. Or if you wanna get extreme I've seen some sport truck guys re-route the gas tank filler neck behind the taillight assembly, and then put a hinge on the taillight assembly so they can flip it open to fill up. The only reason I'm not gonna shave my handles is because its actually illegal in my state. But the moldings, locks, and stock side markers are going bye bye. My side markers will be relocated to a different location. I'm going to replace the stock gas tank filler door with one of those electronic opening billet aluminum locking ones (open it with a button inside the car). It will match with the billet wheels, and billet accents (but the billet grill is going bye bye for the IC).

with your particular color I would say leave the molding and handles. They help the look of your car. But lets say like on a black camaro I could go either way!!

you could put some flush mount body colored handles in there. Like from a 4th gen, or a corvette or something. That's what I wanna do so I'm NHRA legal and still looks clean and different/cool.

Personally I think the car is awesome . . . and if you all think it is awesome in pictures you should see it in person, it is just unbelievable, pictures just don't do it the justice it deserves. I think you should leave them, I like how they break up the side of the car. I do like how Graboids car looks without the side molding but on the other hand I guess you car looks sweet with them on. Maybe you could tell us what color you going to next and you can photoshop a few pictures, that might help out a bit.
ALSO remember you won't be able to race it at the track with no door handles. Milan won't let anyone . . . I've seen them kick a bunch of imports off one night for not having door handles.

If anything Jeff... Paint them the body colour. Shaved handles are alright, but I think they are more for the old school Hot Rods..

you could always do the gas filler behind the license plate, just get a bunch of parts from a 2nd gen at a junk yard and it wouldnt be too difficult...

now don't start.......

as i said it was just an idea. i like the handles my self but once i paint it this next time i'm done for awhile. as to what color, somewhat similar but different. i'm redoing everything on the paint so i really don't want to spoil it just yet. as far as the hood, i like the stock hood better then the ss hood. however the ss hood is so much lighter and looks so much cleaner on the underside that it's a better fit for a show car. i still have the stock hood which i use from time to time but that 90 extra pounds the ss hood saves is worth it. hopefully someone will make a lightweight iroc hood but until then.....
anyhow the shaving was just an idea.

leave the door handels and shave everything else
if u want to ever run ur car at a track they wont let u run it without handels, but if ur car is going to be for show and not for racing then shave the handels off as well.
and does anyone know what door handels are gecz28 off of and how much work is involved?

i don't race sanctioned events so it isn't that much of a concern....
and for this, they already open and close by remote in other ways...

I'd lean more toward a more square handle than the one you chose, seeing as (especially on maros) our cars are so boxy...

I agree with the 4th gen style handles, too bad their doors arent metal or that would be my plan. Personally i say leave it alone, I think that it looks great just how it is.

shave the handles, locks, gas cap, antenna and door strip.
if you dont, but still want somthing diffrent, diffrent handles are cool... flush mounts should be body color.
painting over the existing handles looks cheap and cheezy... as if you didnt know how to properly mask them off.
edit:
you might as well shave them.. with the cage you have, its not NHRA legal anyway... might as well go all out for show and fun.

built the car to drive, not to race at a track in a straight line. cage is to keep the paint from flexing off of my roof which it started to do from torque.
i don't like painted handles that are stock and i don't like these renditions of flush mounted handles that are round on a square car. maybe....just maybe i would think about it if they were square but i just assume leave it the way it is.
i like my gas door so it's staying as well as i like the trim on the side of the car, it came with the car and breaks up the sides....my antenna is already shaved and that was a pita itself to get things right.
as i said it was all in fun, thanks for the suggestions.

I say shave it all man. Markers, moldings, handles...
If you really care about the markers telling people what kinda car you got then find an interesting way to put a marker on the rear, cuz that's the only angle they'll see your car from anyway.
