i saw a post a while back with a TA with stock rims that were refinished or modified, so i'm just looking for similar pics . (i searched but couldn't find what im looking for)

i have the same style as you nolan and i saw some without the black in b/t the spokes, just looked really clean and i'd much rather do that then get aftermarket rims.

thats what i was looking for but i have an 87 TA with those rims, and the guy who owned it before me kept it completely stock so maybe pontiac put them on trans ams also

sorry nolan but i can't check e-mail at work, they have Websense which blocks sites with certain keywords like "e-mail" or auction, so i gotta wait till 5. at least it doesn't block out thirdgen.org b/c then i might actually have to work the whole 8 hours

 

i like that is it chromed or just polished. my goal of this thread is to find out what can be done with the stock rims so thanks. i'll go ahead and post the pic for you... very nice

It looks like to me, that your car has the 15x7 High Tech Turbo wheels, and the picture of the Formula wheel that was posted, is a 16x8 wheel, that came on the 88-92 Formula. This wheel was not offered on the Trans Am in any year.

Now, the picture of the polished wheel WAS available on the Trans Am from 85-87? ONLY with the WS-6 package,and was the only wheel for the Formula in 87, and it also was a 16x8 wheel.

 

i have an '87 trans am with the WS-6 package, and they are 16x8's.

(the suspension package that is but i just measured the rims- 16's)

 

sorry about that, but the picture you posted of your car looks to have 15s, but I can't argue with you, it's your car.

as far as the painted area between the spokes go, the 88-up Formula wheeels were not painted, so if yours are painted, it was done after delivery.

to remove the color, you'll have to strip the whole wheel with aircraft stripper, and then polish where you want.

 

They don't look like 15s. The ones pictured ARE 15s. There's no question about that. Look at the size on the tires. 215/60/15s or something right?

 

Exactly. The wheels pictured are 15's, note the 16 inch wheels are mostly flat (slightly convex) and the 15's are concave.

 

i really don't care what size my wheels are because i know what size they are, i'm more interested in the process of refinishing them

LoL. Not to split hairs, but you can't "measure the rim" externally. That would include the lips, which is worthless to measurement. (About an inch of difference overall)

Look at the tire. You will see somewhere on there something like

215/65/R15

The "15" is the wheel size, in inches. Hope this helps clear things up!

 

I would also like some information on how refinishing works with the 15x7 TA wheels. Mine look crappy due to almost 20 years of abuse and no maintenence.

Does the same process that people use on the IROC wheels work for these as well? I've tried sanding them but it doesn't seem to help at all.
