Blacked Out Tail lights with NiteShades (part 2) Please visit!!

ok guys, here are some updated photos of my tail lights.

The reason i am making this thread is not only to show you them in update, but to see if there is an interest in these tail lights.

Right now i have one customer requesting me to do the exact same thing to his tails. He has gives me $50, $15 of which is return shipping. The rest is for supplies.

I am simply polling if anyone would have an interest in these?

If you would like my services, email jayannsilentbob@hotmail.com, do not, i repeat do not post your request here.

if you wanna get technical, i'm not "Advertising something you have for sale. (use our Classifieds Section)" Its not for sale yet d00d.

I am seeing if their is an interest in a product i may sell in the near future. totally different.

camaros..... hmmmm....

Ya know what, i'll be gettign back to ya on that one. I'll need to take a trip to the junk yard to get a junk light to try it on and see how i would do it.

One question do the grids come off?

If i am capapble i will do it.

I take the lights, sand the stock finish with 2000 grit, getit nice and smooth. Then spray nite shades on, then i spray chrystal clean on, and then wet sand to a very nice shine. then i polish and wax to an even better shine.

At this point i'm looking inot a bench buffer or whatever to amke the shine a little better. But at this point i dont knwo it it will do much.

Why the heck should someone pay you to do that?? I nightshaded my car, looks the same as yours... it's easy as cake, and there's no reason anyone can't do it to their own car. The fact that someone is paying you $50 to do that to your car means you got lucky by finding someone who is way too lazy to take 15 mins to do something themselves. I'm not saying it doesn't look good, but don't expect anyone here to have you do it for them

On another note.... think I could get you to cover my headliner in fur?? I heard that was a great mod to do....... "d00d"

15 minutes, excuse me?

your are obviously not as good as mine. Nite shades sprays on matte finish. Not glosssy at all. You gotta sand it. Then clear it, then sand it, then polish it. Its a 3 day process.

First line seems to contradict the second one there.. 'If you would like my services' sure sounds like advertising to me..

do you have any more pics of that , Id like to have something like that done, but just do the red strip on the bottom. Do you think that would be possible . I think the lights look awesome. I think 60 or 50 isnt that bad. Esp if they come out good . I mean i wouldnt want to pay you and get a crappy job. But they do look good.

Thats not advertising Just because they are not posting here doesnt mean you are not advertising. No I would not pay $35 to have that done when I can do it myself for a lot less. I would rather do it myself, and to my satisfaction.

$35 is mostly the cost of the niteshades, its $20 shipped from any website. then there is clear coat and polish and sand paper. I get very little profit.

Stick with the local transactions first, then come back here with some working business experience before trying to dive into this. Heard of R&D? Do some test runs. Figuring out shipping for a client base as big as TGO is a nightmare in itself.

If it were me trying to expand to the Internet, I'd just buy a bunch of taillights and nightshade them all; then sell them. Probably offer a core discount if the customer sends you their old taillights, too.

(including myself) ... lol... sooo why bust his chops.... this forum is to help others not be pr1cks to each other and get no where (like most posts turn into)

Shane, yours came out awesome! I'm a hardcore do it yourselfer so i'm planning on doing my own. However, thanks for having the step-by-step instructions and showing pics of your progress in the original thread. It'll be tough finding people on this site that don't prefer doing stuff themselves, but your price sounds very fair. In fact, you have to figure out if it's worth your time for that price. Good luck with it. Oh and when are you getting the bird emblem back on?

no offesne man, but in order for the nite shades to maintain its integrity, as a one way tint, it has you cure for its full 8 hours. Then, you can sand it, and then wash it, clear coat it, and then sand sme more, one day for the first niteshades coat, 2nd day for clear, 3rd for sanding, it takes alot of sanding to make it very nice.

and i now have 2 more customers guy, man, you think its a bad rip off, why am i getting so much business. $50 is a terrific price.

Now, here is the question for legality. If you shine a light on the tail lights (not the reflector!) will they reflect light back at you? If not, then what you are doing classifies as an illegal modification in some states. In IL if the officer can't see the reflections on your tail lights then its illegal and you can get a ticket for it.

Then present yourself professionally, which doesnt include typing in letters and numbers d00d.

I would never use "Dude" in the first place, let alone misspell it to look like "dood" And again use numbers "d00d"

Instead of trying to make money on this, you should try to make yourself useful to everyone and make a "How to" so people can try it for themselves. (because I know no one can figure this process out and needs to pay you to do it )

well if i gavea the very exact howto, that wouldn' be a very good business strategy now would it?

but anyways, i did, in the part one version. But watch out, i can guarentee you your gonna get yourself into more then you think. I certainly did. I though wow, i'm gonna spray on my nite shades, san dit down and polish and all is good. Nah i needed to clear also, i needed tiodo so much shizzle its not even funny. It took me 6 days for mine cause i screwed up so many fn times. From things i guarentee you that you dont know.

For instance, never clear over clear, you'll ruin it, make one big thick clear coat. I had to sand off my entire clear twice before i found out that clearing over clear was the problem.

There are lots of nippy tricks.

Also, if you make nite shades run, prepare for it to be a long night that stuff is as dense as diamond. Super hard to erode.

And trust me, fingerprints do show through wear gloves.

See its a lot more complicated then it looks.

Again, there shouldnt be a business strategy, and if you consider this one, lol

People respect you a lot more when your useful and making REAL contributions to moving our hobbies along. If it comes from intelligent posts, a cheap mod like this, or giving feedback on a part you purchased

But you said, "Im barely making money"

So why go throught the hastle, If its something people figure out they cant do, they will get ahold of you to do it for them.

I understand you want some cash for new parts, we all do. WHo was it that did the "polish your tail lights" Joshp14 or someone? Did he try to make money, NO. This whole message boards porpose is to exchange knowledge and experiences FREE. Does your mechanic go into great depths about a question you have on his time off? This is a great free resouce for everyone, and its members are what make it that way.

I would work towards getting rid of a not so great rep, you obviously have something that has a little intrest, HELP OUT FREE. Tell everyone exactly hwo you do it. How many posts have you started and got tons of free answers too?

Shane, it's no secret that I haven't been a fan of every idea of yours (fur on headliner), but some people have nothing better to do than complain. If the forum mod feels this is advertising, then you'll have to remove it, but as for charging, I say do it. Some people are gonna find something wrong with every idea you come up with, and try to twist your words and intentions. Just take care of the people you're already working with.

To everyone else:

If the forum mod has a problem with this, they'll deal with it. The mods appreciate your concern but we'll handle it. If Graboid or Kandied started doing this, the line would be out the door. The least you can do is just not post if you don't think shane should be doing this. It obviously came out pretty good, and we all know that it can be done yourself. If someone doesn't want to do it themselves, that's fine, but don't rip on them, or Shane for helping them out.

As stated above, I know Shane comes up with some quirky ideas sometimes, but it gets old seeing everyone get on the "Shane flaming bandwagon".

That's pretty damn good for not advertising!

I personally don't care about your history, how good the product turns out, or how little you are making. Why haven't the mod's locked this all ready? Seems like a double standard to me.

Honestly i couldnt care less who is doing the work. Its way too easy to do it yourself to pay someone else to do it for you.

Come on its nightshade for g0ds sake! Cant get much easier!

This has to be locked now. You've found that there is interest and that you can make money from it. If you make money from TGO you have to sponsor like the others. Doing otherwise is now cheating the system and the current sponsors.
