Can the third brakelight be removed?

Like the subject says, is it possible? It just leaves a whole in the rear glass, right? Could a rubber plug be used to fill the hole? Has anyone done this?

I already have good rear glass, I would think it'd be kind of senseless to get a whole new hatch if I can just remove the brakelight off the one I have. Shoot, if it comes down to needing to change the hatch to get rid of it I'll just leave it on.....

You can pick up a rear hatch for pretty damn cheap.

I have seen them get for sale at 30 bucks. All you need to do after that is get matching paint.
