WD40 also works.
btw, if you spray wd40, Pam cooking spray, or some other oil like stuff behind the wheels, the rubber can be wiped off when you come back to the pits.

i had my rear quarter absolutly covered with road tar,
i stoped at a light on a patch apparently, it was raining so i didnt gun the gas either, and my tires spun like i actually owned a big engine, i knew that wasnt good, when i got to school i loooked at the back and noticed it, i couldnt do anything about it till i got it home, when i did the stuff was dried and hardened on my car, i foolishly tried a wet paper towel on it and it ripped the towel,
anywho long story short i use some household sented keroseen that my parents had left in a old lamp, it striped the tar right off my car and didnt hurt the paint, ive never really used it on rubber, as i dont have a problem with burnouts with my car, but i think it would be a worth while try if youve got soem around the house or can get some cheaper than those tar/bug removers

<off topic> by im lovin that signature.

Anyway, i dont think wd40 hurts paint at all. Also, teh bug and tar remover works for the rubber on the tires also and not just "tar"? I mean when the rubber gets caught onto the 1/4's.

Stay away from Laquer thinners! IMO, I use Eucalyptus oil, but then I live in OZ so not sure if you guys can get it?
wd40 ain't too bad either,
If I know I'm going to do a burnout I spray around the wheel arches with canola cooking spray (it puts a non stick film over your paint)

gasoline also works well to remove rubber and road tar.. just damp a cloth and rub your rear quarters..
wash and re-wax after for the gas strips off the wax.
canola cooking oil or similar is a great preventative measure before burnouts (if the burnouts and flying rubber are planned in advance!)
