Just as the top says , how do i take care of my rims. They are polished aluminum and i dont wanna put zoop seal on them . Does anyone have a write up on how to take care of them and clean them .

 

When you wash the car, make sure and take some time to detail them and get all the breakdust and crap off them. They may get a litte bit of fading from corrosion over time and for that i would reccommend the metal polish wading(made by Wizards, Meguiars, Etc... It usually comes in a tin or a jar that looks kinda like shoe polish) Use as per directions, this is what i used for the final polish on my stockers and it works great. You should really only need to do any polishing once a year, so if you want you could just clean em up when you bust her out in the spring and they would probably be good for the summer.

 

I would recommed "Mothers Billet Polish" that's the ONLY stuff I'll use on my wheels and it's the best stuff I've ever used. About $12-$15 bucks a can...but you get what you pay for.

I just wipe brake dust off with a california duster then polish with the billet polish..never had any problems.

I would never only polish once a year. You've got a set of wheels that are probably 2 grand or more....

Aluminum will oxidize....nothing can stop that unless they are coated with something. You can polish them as much as you want..and they will not get hurt. They can't chip, the can't crack....or anything like a painted surface can. So....polishing 2-3 times a week will not hurt a thing. I'm sure if you paid like 2 grand..or even more...you won't care to polish them up every once in awhile. I polish my wheels about 2-3 times a week...but..I guess I might be a little extreme

 

same for chrome wheels???

 

84customz28 i did spend some big bucks on the rims and tires so i really want to keep them clean . What do you keep them covered with , u dont just let them stay bare do you , do you put like nu finish or pure carnuba on them or something.

 

As for Chrome...chrome will eventually flake and fall off. It might take along time...but it will happen. Chrome doesn't rust like alot of people think...it's the metal beneath the chrome plating the rusts...and that's why chrome flakes off. So..I'm really not to sure about chrome...I would probably just polish them...and keep the waxed up so any kind of moisture will "bead" up


As far as an actual protectant....any kind of wax with carnuba will work. I don't drive mine in the rain...so...I really don't use was all that much on my wheels. So usually..I just polish them...so..yeah....they are bare most of the time, which will not hurt them one bit because they are aluminum and do not have a plating like chrome. Aluminum is pure...so the only thing that can happen to aluminum is that it will oxidize...nothing polish can't handle. I probably only put a coat of wax on them about every 6 months or so...

 

I use mothers too. Good stuff.

 

polished aluminum is the most pita metal to work with. if you dont keep ontop of them, they will get all oxidized and will look like ****e and will never get them back to properly looking..

Look at mine....almost a year...and still look like brand new...I guess it just depends on how well you take care of it...or what elements the car is exposed to...

ok looks like im gonna get the meguairs billet polish and some paste wax with carnuba in it. I dont drive my car in the rain either, so i guess they should stay pretty clean , and i also got ceramic brake pads so they wilol have less dust , i guess the stockers will have to do until next year when i buy the wilwood brake setup from spohn. Does anyone have any compars between stock 11 inch brakes and then 13 inch brakes.

 

You could also leave them in the boxes, that way they will be easier to clean.

they were 40 bucks . but i havent put them on yet , as i only got them yesterday and i work just about every day now .

i went to advance auto and got . i saw on the pc screen the retail was 62.99 and it said your price of something, maybe there a special , i also have an 85 you have a 91 or 92 i dont rememer off hand , and 91-2's have bigger brakes stock than the 82-88
