Iroc spoiler on Trans Am

Something I have thought about. I have a clean 87 GTA. The problem is - the car looks more european in some aspects than american. I get a euro mag from a friend each month and my GTA looks more like those cars than an american street rod. Especially the slope nose like the lambo or ferrari cars. The problem is that rims and accesories for third gen cars do not lend themselves to a euro look - so modifying the GTA is hard. The stock rims sort of look like the the more euro BBS wheels but I do not want to keep the stock rims. Some of the cars I see look sort of confused - the more american looking mods not not match the overall euro theme of the car.

I thought about modifying the GTA look a little to help balance this out. One area is the rear wing. Perhaps something a little more subtle? Like the spoiler on the irock. It might tone things down a little. Maybe even or a more subtle wing like on some of the formula cars. Something not so overstated.

I know there are die hard fans out there for the pontiac - dont be offended - this is a good forum for open thought to get fresh ideas. I really like my GTA.

An pics if this has been done or thoughts would be great!

The design of the GTA was heavily infuenced by European cars of the time...hence the look and the name (Gran Tourismo Americano).

Like the the older spoiler I guess - I had not thought of those - I assume you are speaking of a piece along the trunk and a piece in either side on the fenders? Just something else besides the large wing that is on there.

Well first off the stock camaro 3piece spoiler will not bolt directly onto the hatch/fenders of a bird. The bird's *** is generally a few inches wider surrounding thetailights. So you'll have a gap on the decklid spoiler piece if you don't fill it in and the fender pieces will look grossly out of place because they'll be nowhere near anything. The maro's have the tailights to surround...

Just food for thought.

And my opinion would be to put on the 91-92 aero wing...

EDIT: the 91-92 BIRD aero wing

I think that color is known as primer. lol. As for the 3 piece spoiler on a bird, the center section would fit perfectly because the deck lids are identical, but the fender pieces wouldn't come close. search for "1988 appearance package" and you'll see a similar shaped spoiler in one piece that came on very few firebirds in 1988. It's very hard to find one though. Otherwise, the bolt-on options are :
82-92 Firebird Pedistal style
85-90 Firebird wraparound
91-92 Firebird fiberglass "thin" wraparound
4th gen T/A spoiler adapted to fit a 3rd gen
91-92 Camaro High rise spoiler
88 Camaro spoiler (not very easy to find or attractive IMO)

Other spoilers have been used from:
Fiero
newer mustangs
4th gens

I know how it is... all these choices and it's still hard to choose one!

That car has a serious identity crisis! The highrise looks good IMO, but the 3 piece just looks wrong without the taillights wrapping around the 1/4s. No offense to the owner of that particular car, but the three piece and the rims belong on Camaros, not birds.

lets put it this way. People that are so ****, against using chevy parts on a bird and vice versa because it's "wrong" and breaks some invisible rule needs to pull the wild stick out of thier a$$, there all made by GM.

but at the same time please have tast lol.

i dont like the idea of swapping engines in cars that dont belong such as a ford engine in a chevy or vice versa but thats a whole other thread..LOL:lala:

Thanks for the picture - it helps put in place the concept I was thinking about. I think the camaro stuff on the firebird does look out of place - just like GTA wheels look out of place on Camaros - I always think that when I see it but it never crossed my mind to see it the other way around with the camaro spoiler on a Trans Am. I do not know what to do to change the look fo the car yet. But this helped and that is what is cool about these forums.

I personally don't have a problem with GTA wheels on a Camaro. The GTA wheels have a design that would look good on many cars. As I stated before I also think that the highrise looks very good on the birds too. But when it comes to that 3 piece spoiler, It just doesn't fit the lines on the birds like it does the Camaros. On a side note, did anyone else notice what appear to be Iroc stripes on the red car? I would like to see a wrap around style spoiler of any year on a Camaro. Of course, that might look just as out of place as the 3 piece on that red T/A...
