Vandals rattle canned my Rims
Okay guys, I'm still kinda new to the site but I have a problem that I need some help with. The other morning I went out to my car and found that some Punk kids had spray painted all over the rims on my Formula. Has the nice WS-6 rims too......Bastards! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to get paint off my rims. This way I can just pocket the insurance money and buy some Headers to fix my exhaust leak. Thanks for all your help guys!

headers wont fix your exhaust leak unless the cast manifolds have a hole in them (doubtful). i am aware of your want to get them but just letting you know.

Sorry to hear that man. If your rims had good clearcoat on them, you *should* be able to rub off the spraypaint by spraying brake cleaner on a rag and rubbing. Just use it sparyingly and it should work fine.
Good luck man, I know a little something about vandalism also....

Don't use brake fluid, use lighter fluid. It's far less toxic to you and the clear coat. Once you get the paint off, make sure to wash the wheels.

spray paint im assuming, use a pressure washer itll blast that stuff right off. ussually spray paint doesnt stick to well to a surface that wasnt scuff sanded for adhesion.

Sweet thanks guys. It was definitely spray paint. I'll try pressure washing first and if that doesn't work i guess it'll be on to brake/lighter fluid....... as for sandblasting, umm how so. Don't you do that if your gonna polish them up real nice? Will that work for the WS-6 rims though, I know they have that rippled/machine feel on the face of the rim and then painted between the spokes. But anyway, thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it!

I dunno
My friend got spray paint on his paint (not overspray), and a claybar took it off. Joined: Oct 2002

def dotn sandblast them, that is wayyyy unnessisary.
maybe even some real strong wheel cleaner. i detail cars full time at a dealer ship. we have some wheel cleaner there that smokes when u put it on wheels taht are real covered in brake dust, it works damn good and doesnt hurt the wheels at all. if there any places near u that do detailing stop by and talk to them, i bet for free theyd pull ur car in and try to clean it off.
id try the pressure washer first. i bought some pony wheels for my 91 LX mustang that had been spray painted, well i took the hose to them and the spray paint litterally blasted off, made a mess on my driveway but the original paint was MINT on the wheels, they look brand new again
the brake cleaner could harm the clear coat on the wheels, i wouldnt suggest it unless its ur last resort. i noticed that it will turn the clear a weird blue-ish color, not good, it will also make the clear coat really soft.

I wouldn't be surprised if the paint wont come off the rough surface inside the "spoke" area of the wheels. Only the face is machined smooth IIRC.
I'd try the lighter fluid.
