First time using the clay bar... I'm very pleased
Hey guys,
We had a nice 65* day today and I was off work, so I thought I'd wash the car real quick since it was dusty (even though its not going anywhere with no insurance). Well, one thing led to another and I wound up spending about 4 hours "washing the car real quick". I decided to use my clay bar fot the first time since I heard such good things about it. I am quite pleased with the results, the paint feels so smooth now. Here are some of the pics, more on page 10 of my cardomain page. Hopefully I'll have my own domain soon so I'll be able to post the high res ones then
For the winter, I currently have no plans yet. The engine is beginning to knock, so I would like to buy a block and build another one and then swap it in next spring. But, after I graduate from my Volvo training, theres a decent chance I may have to move to the east coast for a job. If I did, the car would more than likely stay at home for a year or two. If I can get into a dealership around here, I would like to buy a house or condo within the next 12-18 months, so I would obviously need money for that. So I'm pretty undecided as of right now. I will probably just do some small stuff, replace the headliner and some interior pieces, maybe finally finish polishing/painting the rims, and possibly get into PROM burning/tuning.
So theres my latest update, comments and criticisms are welcome

Looks very nice!
and I like your "purple" steering wheel cover hahaha, I had one too for a bit, they look pretty nice while they are black(for about a week) then I got my grant steering wheel....
in the fourth pic it looks like there is a ding in your door, about 8 inches in front of your handle. But not in the other pics...

yes, clay bars work wonders... I always thought my paint looked nice with my regular wax jobs- then I spent a Friday night with the clay bar and then did a coat of wax and the difference was incredible. Even my co-worker who is a 30-yr-old mother of 2 noticed my car looked different.

The one I used came with my Formula 113 kit I purchased a while ago. However, you can buy them at any local parts store or the auto section of Wal Mart. I know Mothers has one, I'm not sure who else makes them.
They come with directions and are very easy to use, just time consuming. First, wash and dry the car as you normally would. Then, working in sections, lubricate the area you are going to use the clay bar on. For my car, I used Formula 113's Bead-X solution, but I believe you can just use water. Then just glide the clay bar over the surface, using slight pressure. Stretch and bend it to keep a clean piece. If you drop it on the ground, don't reuse it because it will pick up dirt and scratch your paint. After that, rinse the lube off, dry and wax. The visual difference wasn't much. But, I did half of my door, and then felt it with my finger. The smoother surface was very noticable.
