Question about Hoodbirds
I just bought my '87 Firebird last weekend, so excuse me if I sound a little dumb. I know that they got rid of the hoodbirds in 87 but I was looking to get one on my car anyway. Problem is, I have the vented syle hood, so there is no way the 87 Trans Am Hoodbird would look right or even sit right on it. I have done a little poking around, and I know that Phoenix Graphix has a hoodbird for an 81 Turbo Trans Am that had the vented hood. Anybody know if that would come remotely close to fitting? Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the boards!
Oh, please, dont get a second gen style bird for your thirdgen. It just wont look right. And the bird style did change quite a bit from 2nd gen to third gen to fourth.
You can get a hoodbird on ebay for pretty cheap. Further, you can either put it over the front vents and then carefully cut it, or, just place it slightly above, like this.
You can see more pics at this guy's thread, here.. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ht=shaker+hood
Anyhow, yeah, ebay is the way to go.

The turbo bird from an 80-81 will barely fit on the huge hood from the 2nd gen, no way is it going to fit on a third. The turbo bird is also the only bird that officially faces the "wrong" direction.

Thanks for the input so far, but I think I describeded it wrong. Here is a pic of my bird.
Maybe single cowl is a better way to describe it?

i've looked into this, and the 2nd gen bird is very large. The tail would cross over onto the nose a bit. Your best bet is drawing up your own or having someone else draw it and have a vinyl piece custom made at a local vinyl decal shop. If i were you, I'd start with a 3rd gen style bird like shown above, flip it to face the right, and go from there with adding flames to go up the bulge.

Thanks JeremyNYR. I'll look into it, but I'm a little afraid of the price
. I am a 16, and going to be putting all the money I get into the bird as it is.

For your hood I would get the one shown here:

Yeah, I think thats what I'm gonna end up with. I wanted a really big bad-*** bird, but I don't think thats gonna happen now.

if you edit the firebird graphic yourself on your computer, it won't cost very much for a local shop to print it on Vinyl for you. The louvered style bird that was stock from 82-84 that the link shows is also cool though.
