Yeah, like mentioned above, this is on again right now. So far it is pretty interesting although I already know the outcome from reading above posts. The twins hosting are big into Imports. They had their own show on Spike TV last year and built up a pretty sick Supra. They seem to know a lot about cars in general.

I caught the show last night and it was pretty good. I have to agree with EjBaL and think that part of the problem for the older guys was that they were trying to manually shift. I think both teams tried manually shifting in the first race and it was neck and neck, but then the younger guys let the trans shift for the second and third race and ran the best times. If I was the older guys and driving the cars for the first time, not knowing where the best shift points were, I would have let the trans shift itself. Although I wanted the older guys to win because they were all about american muscle, maybe the younger guys will get converted.

I believe it is mainly due to the fact that they were manually shifting the car. Those were some very nice gains for the mods IMO. 100+whp with just and exahust, supercharger, and msd. Wonder what couldhave happened with some dyno tuning. Did they say how much boost they were using? Also, didn't they mention they changed the fuel pump, or put in a second one. I missed that part of the show.

I wonder if that red one wasnt a 305 car. It was down about 10 horsepower from the start. They never gave the after power rating for the red one either. And wasnt the exhaust a single cat it didnt even have dual cats.
I agree they should have let the tranny do the shifting. But didnt they see the dyno sheets? That should have given them a good idea. where to shift at if they got a chance to see the power curves.
I enjoyed it though, nice to see the IROC Camaro getting the props it deserves.
I liked the red one, but would have to had the hardtop! Both were sweet though.

yea its possbile the red one might have been a 305 car but i doubt it. IIRC both cars had the same exhaust system (single cat) and the one car they dynoed after the mods was up to 330 hp. over a 100hp gain. the reason i think it was so much it because those were pretty big blowers.
if anyone cares the silver drag car is in the feb. issue of car craft!
im not sure abou the pumps, i think they put a bigger inline pump in but dont quote me.

I also wonder if the fact that the older guy's car was less horsepower? They never said what thier car was putting out after the mods? Could it have been because it was significantly less than the kid's car? Just a thought. Yes shifting was a big part too.
Did anyone notice that the red one had the wrong color IROC decals and they were also placed up towards the front of the door instead of the rear? Also, the white one had black headlight cut outs, which I thought were changed to be the same color as the car in '87 or something? Nevertheless, it was pretty cool. Some of the history clips had some fuggin nice 3rd gens
. That maroon IROC was schweeet!

I believe that it came down to driver skill if anything else. Sure, one car could have been stronger than the other, just like brand new cars of taday too, but I still think that the driving played a major role in the races. They really did not go into detail as to how much power both cars were putting out, but from the racing portion, you could tell that both cars very extremely close in power. Just my opinion.

[Edit] N/m, if I do that and send them out, it's probably illegal
