Should I buy it?
For anyone who followed my past thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=274045 The mods were nice enough to lock it
So heres the Update, I went to look at the car today.
Theres surface rust about quarter sized near the gas cap, and a few deep scratches, otherwise the body is pretty good. Interior is really nice.
The engine is a rebuilt 350, hasnt run yet (scary) and the tranny is a 700r4. the car used to be a fuel injected v6. Oh yeah its an 85.
i wish it woulda been cleaner when i seen it but oh well, So I got him down to 2000, running. I dont know if this isa good deal? Just wondering your guys opinions on the car, whether or not to sell mine, buy this, or soop up mine by doing the v6-350 swap. Really tough decision right now.
PICS
Front view, again, very dusty, and thats a bra upfront

Body seemed straight and didnt have any rust on the bottom of the car

The goods. Not done yet, said he will send it to a mechanic to finish the job. $2000 running

Let me know what you guys think

Not running? I don't know. I think I would walk away unless I could get more information on how old the engine was, what was required to get it running, and the status of other mechanicals on the car.
Sorry... no help here.

megaracerx - It may not be something special, but it could be with work, and I looked all around and there really isnt any more rust than that. Hes the second owner, never winter driven

well i spent the money because i ripped everything apart i had free righn- the turbo had to shaft play- it was a one owner car- the guy had all the work done at a well known shop- there were receipts for the rebuilt motor- only has 5K on it right now, receipts for everything- fully loaded GN- posi, power everything, concert sound II, t tops- all it needed was door pannels and t top seals wich are done. the car was packed with performance stuff as well- buying a "preowned" car is the luck of the draw somtimes- you can get a car that looks immaculate and runs like brand new- 2 weeks later its getting a headgasket.

and also about the V6-v8 swap alot of guys when i was first on here a while ago tried talking me out of it- said it wasnt worth the money go get a Z. right now im going with a 383- its acualy pretty simple when you have somthing else to drive. its pretty much pull everything out- put new motor mounts in, i have to fab a tranny Xmember, and go from there. it gives you a feeling of satisfaction that the old 6 banger has some life now with 2 more cylinders.

Im starting to lean away from this car, its pretty cool and all, But when i look at mine, (first car ever) it just screams out "keep me love me hold me" lol...sorry if i sound insane. But Im thinking, find a job, buy a crapbox, and build a 355 for my baby. I have many questions about the swap but If i start asking those and get answers the mods will lock it as usual
But yeah I just talked to my dad about it, he said the car wasnt bad, but then I thought, whats wrong with the one I have now? its just slow, get a job and fix that
So I still need to think about this one, any input is appreciated

I think you should keep your car and build it. Your car appears to be much nicer. Plus theres always a reason why the car is not been fired yet, especially w/ only alittle left to do. So get yourself a job, and get v8. How hard is that? plus $2,000 for someone else's headache isn't worth it.

$200 will buy a running, slightly beat up v8 3rd gen around here. Maybe they're harder to find up there,....... but I'd keep looking anyway.

Im confused, where is everyone getting that Im buying it not running? I put "$2000 RUNNING" he said he would take it to a mechanic to get it all running good caue its to cold to work on it at home. SO what i am saying, if i purchased it for $2000, it WOULD be running....so it wouldnt be a headache, but I think I have decided against it, I like the car I have now, And when I build up a 355 i can say its "MY" engine

for $2000us or $2400 CDN no way.
for $3000CDN I got a 1988 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible. Red w/black interior, black mint roof with 17" centerlines. It was a once in a lifetime grab but still I wouldnt even CONSIDER that for that price.
just My opinion
PS I sold the vert, the guy painted the front bumper, repolished the rims and has it for sale for $11000 CDN
lol
I sold it 3 days after I got it for 100% profit!

$2000 canadian, but i have made my decision, Im keeping mine
It would just give me more self satisfaction by doing the swap myself

Further, I have learned that if there is ANYTHING suspicious about a car, you really need to walk away. Who knows, that v8 in that one could be absolutely junk. It could be just a stock rebuild, 160 HP motor. Which it sort of looks like it is.

Rust and deep scratches eh
any evidence of a repaint? Bondo?
Think about it, if your going to do any TPI tuning the 85 ECM sucks and you will have to upgrade to an 86+
Check engine mounts see if swap was done good
Insurance will be cheap
