Hardwiring - Jim85Iroc

Hey, I have a question about hardwiring a neon light into the headliner of my car. It is an '89 Camaro RS w/ T-Tops. I thought it would look cool if I took a blacklight or neon light and hardwired it to my T for the T-Tops. But, I have some questions. 1) Where would I wire it to if the light comes w/ the cord and adapter for the Cigarette Lighter(I want the wire permenant and hidden)? Second, I think the light is the kind that turns on and off as you plug it in/out(no switch). Is there any way I can hardwire this w/out it staying on 24/7 and draining my battery? Thanks

Well,I dont know about the cord but you can splice into the cord and put a switch(toggle, flip,or push whatever you prefer) and just slice that into the cord and bang...presto change-o

You could also wire it to the dash lights so that it only comes on when you headlights(or parking lights)are on. If you do this, make sure you have a real good ground circuit or you could have some problems. Good luck. Another advantage to this is that you would never forget to turn off your headlights.

Yea, thanks guys, that helps a lot. The thing w/ never forgetting to turn the lights off is a cool idea too. How would I do that, if I want to wire it to the yellow parking lights, do I only hook it up to the fuse box? Or do I have to hook it up there and to the battery or what?
