Hardwire IPOD FM Transmitter w/ Cigarette lighter charger

I want to hardwire an Ipod FM Transmitter. I have an Ipod, and I want to use the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus FM Transmitter. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and keeps the Ipod charged. My cigarette lighter is all messed up, and instead of replacing it, I'd rather snip off the cigarette lighter plug and directly wire to the electric system. I think it would look neater to have it directly wired out of sight than always sticking out of the cigarette lighter. Can I just snip the connections from the existing cigarette lighter and use that?

you can, but the sound quality isn't that great on those transmitters. I'd just hard wire the ipod directly into your deck. However, if you hell bent on using the transmitter, you can wire it in directly... just make sure you get the polarity right when you connect everything up.

How can I hardwire the Ipod to my headunit? It is a 2001 model and as far I as I know it has no direct connection capabilities. Ultimately, I want to get a head unit with direct connection (for the better sound quality), but for now, $70 is a lot easier than $300.

Soundquality sucks with those and the transmitter is connected to the ipod as far as i know...

for that much money buy a setup that connects the ipod directly to the radio.

My deck and adapter was $300... now they are less.

It's not difficult to hard wire it in. The first thing you need to figure out is, if it's a straight 12volts coming out of the cigarette plug on the transmitter. On some adapters, they may drop the voltage down.
If the transmitter is all 12V, than you can snip the wire and hard wire it to your car. If it's not 12V than all you have to do is get a female lighter connector to plug the transmitter into. The you can hard wire it in.
To wire it, you can get a fuse tap from radioshack to tap out of the fuse box.

Just make sure the fuse you use is only on with the car. That way you won't drain the battery while your not using it.

I've done a similar set up when I hard wired my radar detector, so it should work the same with a FM transmitter.

Thanks for the info. I found a Pioneer (DEH-P3700MP) head unit with the Ipod controler for about $200, so I may go with that instead of the FM Transmitter. But soon I will be hooking up accessories on the 12v feed so the post will help me then. THanks again.

Haha thanks. There is something about only getting a MAX of 15khz and no less than 50hz from an FM Transmitter that just doesnt sit well, especially after spending all that time and money upgrading speakers.

That's good to know about the frequency range. I never paid attention to the range. The human ear can generally hear between 20hz to 20k hz. Plus with the RF, you'll be prone to more interferance.
